Glossip: See Inside The Irish Champions Festival Launch

Celebrating the countdown to the two-day racing showcase …

Irish Champions Festival is recognised as one of the leading international flat racing festivals, so it was fitting that this year’s festival launch was held at the chic Jean-Georges Terrace of The Leinster, where broadcaster Hector Ó hEochagáin welcomed guests. These included racehorse trainers Joseph O’Brien and Ado McGuinness, master tailor Louis Copeland, and broadcasters Elaine Crowley and Jenny Buckley.

Now in its twelfth year, the festival offers over €5 million prize money during 17 races, with six Group 1 races among the two-day race programme. Two of the biggest races to look out for are the Group 1 Royal Bahrain Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown and the Comer Group International Irish St Leger at the Curragh, which is the last Classic race of the season.

Suzanne Eade, CEO of Horse Racing Ireland, highlighted the significance of the festival. “This event represents the pinnacle of the sport in Ireland, showcasing our world-class horses, trainers, jockeys and racecourses. It’s a brilliant opportunity to bring racing fans, newcomers and the wider community together in anticipation of one of the most exciting weekends in the Irish sporting calendar.”

Trainers Aiden O’Brien, Jessica Harrington and champion jockey Ronan Whelan also spoke to guests, giving their tips for the event, as did Vogue Williams and Spencer Matthews (pictured), who are both long-time racing fans. Vogue reflected on her experience riding at Goodwood, and what she enjoys most about the Ffestival. “As well as great racing, I love the creativity, style and brilliant social aspect that racing brings – it’s always a great excuse to get dressed up and have a fun day out with a group of friends.”

Guaranteed to be one of the best sporting and social weekends of the year, the September festival will also feature an inspiring line-up of fashion and entertainment in addition to a unique JockeyCam, a 360 virtual reality technology where racegoers can have an immersive experience to feel the exhilaration of a race through the eyes of a professional jockey.
