Independent fashion boutique, Macbees Killarney, celebrated 40 fabulous years in business this year and, to mark the occasion, held a throwback-themed event in-store last week with customers …
The boutique was transformed into a museum of vintage Macbees pieces, donated by Macbees’ cherished customers, each one with its own beautiful story attached.
The event saw an in-store fashion show hosted by Mary McBride, founder and owner of Macbees, alongside Celia Holman Lee. The pair took guests on a trip down memory lane, reminiscing over shared experiences from the last 40 years as the Macbees AW collections were shown in the salon-style show, which also featured the fabulous creations of Carol Kennelly millinery.
Macbees customers modelled their beloved pieces from over the years, including a slick black cocktail dress that loyal customer Frankie Coyne bought within a week of the store’s opening in 1984, which her granddaughter wore in the show with one of Carol’s beautiful pieces. The guests all donned their favourite Macbees finds for the event, including Macbees’ first employee Eileen Cahillane, who is still part of the team. Cahillane wore her wedding outfit, which she bought there in 1987. Timeless!
Guests at the event sipped on Vermouth and Tonics (V&Ts) served by Orla and Anna, the gorgeous wife and wife duo behind Valentia Island Vermouth, and an extra flourish was added to the space thanks to the talented Pierette of the Flower Yard.
