Honouring outstanding Irish rugby players while promoting philanthropy, this Irish charity held a recent event at The Shelbourne, Dublin 2 …
Now in its 14th year, The Ireland Funds Rugby Lunch is an annual event which honours outstanding rugby players and their careers, both on and off the pitch. Previous rugby lunch honourees have included: Rob Kearney, Peter Stringer, Paul O’Connell, Tommy Bowe, Jamie Heaslip, Keith Woods and Donal Lenihan.
At this year’s event, hosted by The Ireland Funds chairman Alan Foy, president and CEO Caitriona Fottrell and executive director Siobhán Gallagher, former Ireland captain Rory Best was honoured. Caitriona Fottrell explained: “Rory’s leadership left a lasting impact on the game during an incredibly rich and storied career, which saw him become one of the most-capped players in the history of rugby. Rory’s significant support of Cancer Fund for Children, a project supported by The Ireland Funds, is just one example of ongoing leadership and his commitment to community. He is an exceptional addition to the list of players previously honoured at this event.”
