Four Winter Face-Savers To See You Through The Cold Snap

Golden wonders for giving you a beauty lift on these grey winter days …

THE DAILY HERO L’Occitane Immortelle SPF20

I thought I knew L’Occitane inside out, but somehow missed this – a version of the very beautiful Immortelle Divine Light Cream with SPF20. In the summer I always use a separate SPF – but at this time of year, this is a great one-stop product, moisturising and protecting skin in one go. After all, when you’re getting up in the dark, it can be hard to think about UV protection. A golden wonder, €89; ie.loccitane.com.

THE LITTLE LIFT Somega B12

We read in The Irish Times last week that a deficiency of B12 vitamins can lead to low mood and potentially depression. Obviously the best way to get vitamins is through your diet, but this vitamin spray by Irish brand Somega tastes fine and is very easy to take: keep it by the teabags so you remember to spritz it every day. Anything to lift the mood … (they do great vitamin C solutions and a spray vitamin D also). At pharmacies and www.gosomega.com.

THE GLOW-GETTER

We certainly need a bit of help to lift our skin and fake a healthy-looking glow (and offset the sugar consumption). As well as MZ Skin Lift & Glow (see this post), we’re finding face salvation in a hard-hitting moisturiser designed for ages 40-plus, Clarins Extra Firming Energy moisturising cream (€68, at stockists nationwide). It packs a punch, with organic apricot oil lending it a soft tint. A nourishing skin treat.

THE NATURAL GLEAM Frances Prescott Tri Balm

I also love a moisturising stick to add a gleam to cheekbones –it’s a great cheat. I’m currently trying out a new one by Frances Prescott called Tri Balm, which is a natural, vegan option, rich in sunflower seed and sweet almond oils, and with a soft geranium scent, that can be used to cleanse, moisturise and as a mask or lip balm. Swipe it onto cheekbones to catch the light and add a bit of glow. €30, at www.francesprescott.com.
