Cedarwood Spa, Wineport Lodge, Co Westmeath

Set on the shores of Lough Ree, every inch of the newly redesigned Cedarwood Spa makes use of its lakeside setting. In the infinity pool, the lake is close enough to touch, and includes massaging jets and lounging seats for watching the meditative undulations of the lake. Inside, recliner beds in the relaxation room are placed in front of full length windows, which open up completely on warmer days. Out on the lake itself, a floating pontoon is home to two hot tubs, on the water’s surface. Both the pontoon and the tubs sway gently with the movement of the lake, creating an endlessly peaceful experience.

One the first floor of the spa guests will find four outdoor seaweed baths lined up on an open balcony, again with unbeatable views of the lake. These deep tubs are filled with piping hot water and organic, hand-harvested seaweed from the Atlantic. If seaweed isn’t your thing, you can sink into a bath of warmed spiced mud or relaxing aromatherapy oils. The treatment cabins, designed with a nautical theme,  also reference the wine heritage of the property, with a nod to the barrels where wine is aged. As for treatments, these include Swedish and hot stone massage and a range of specialised facials using either Voya or the French brand Yon-Ka.  For something more active, a resident yoga teacher holds sunrise classes, brunch sessions and private workshops; guests can also rent Whaly boats and stand up paddle boards to make the most of the water. Seaweed baths cost €55, hot tubs are €25 per person and treatments start from €60; www.wineport.ie

The Spa at The Kingsley, Cork

From herringbone flooring to fresh colour and paint finishes, the nine treatment rooms at this chic urban retreat have been refurbished recently. Guests will also find a new spa boutique (stocking Neom Organics, Kerstin Florian, Natural Spa Factory and Handmade Soap products) as well as a garden swing, one of the elements of its popular Thermal Suite Welcome Ritual. To celebrate its new look, The Spa at The Kingsley is running an introductory offer on the Gua Sha Instant Lift Facial for a discounted price of €150. The 95-minute treatment, which aims to reduce puffiness, boost circulation and contour the face, uses the ancient art of gua sha combined with protein-dense caviar. All guests booking spa treatments over €65 may avail of complimentary access to the Thermal Suite which includes chromotherapy room, tropical rainforest showers, ice shower, spa pool and a range of heat and steam rooms; www.thekingsley.ie
