IN PARTNERSHIP WITH GERKA CLINIC
From unqualified online tips to social media trends, misinformation is rife – but one Dublin clinic is fighting back with science-backed, non-invasive treatments for pelvic floor health …
Bladder health has become a trending topic, but too often the advice is wrong, unregulated or even dangerous. While millions of social media followers are sold quick fixes or expensive padding, Gerka Clinic in Dublin offers a long-term solution: medical-grade, non-surgical treatments that work.
A staggering one in seven older adults in Ireland experience incontinence, rising to nearly one in three in later life. Women’s health specialist Giselle Gerka set out to tackle the problem by providing non-invasive pelvic floor treatments that don’t rely on guesswork or gimmicks. “I see women who’ve spent hundreds of euros on ineffective treatments or have been embarrassed into silence,” says Giselle. “My mission is to provide clinical care that is evidence-based, accessible and restores confidence.”
At the centre of the Gerka Clinic in Stillorgan is the Emsella® Chair – dubbed the ‘Kegel Throne’ – a revolutionary FDA-approved treatment that delivers the equivalent of 11,200 Kegel exercises in a single 30-minute session, while patients remain fully clothed. The treatment is non-surgical, painless and requires zero downtime, making it ideal for busy women who want to avoid the stigma and hassle of pads, pills or surgery.

The BTL Emsella Chair
“After I had my son, I realised that my pelvic floor had changed forever,” says Giselle. “When I first tried the Emsella Chair in the US, it transformed my life. I knew Irish women needed access to this too, so I brought it here.”
The chair is easy to use: you simply sit on it fully clothed for 28 minutes, ideally twice a week. There is no age limit or aftercare needed, so you can immediately return to your normal activities after each session – perfect during a work break for busy mums. The chair delivers electromagnetic waves that directly target the pelvic muscles, stimulating muscular activity while helping the fibres regain strength and tone.
A minimum of six sessions is recommended, after which the pelvic floor muscles are re-evaluated, and patients receive guidance on simple home exercises to maintain results. Outcomes may be long-lasting or vary, depending on factors such as lifestyle and daily habits. An annual maintenance session is often suggested as a top-up. An impressive 95 per cent of treated women noted a significant increase in quality of life, with many returning for follow-up sessions for continued support.
It is also advisable to prepare the pelvic area before pregnancy, and treatment can safely be resumed 30 days after childbirth, on a case by case basis. Emsella protocols are also designed to enhance sexual wellness and sensitivity.
