Big Grill BBQ & Food Festival, Herbert Park, Dublin 4
One of the highlights of the summer food calendar, Big Grill BBQ & Food Festival returns to Herbert Park from August 13 to 16 with four days of live fire cooking, barbecue and brilliant food. This year’s line-up brings together Irish and international chefs, pitmasters and restaurants serving dishes you’ll only find at the festival, alongside demonstrations, craft beer, cocktails, live music and family friendly entertainment. Cork on a Fork Fest, Cork City
If you’re planning a foodie escape this month, Cork on a Fork Fest should be firmly on your radar. Running from August 12 to 16 , the citywide festival features more than 150 events, from long-table feasts and chef collaborations to tastings, markets and family friendly activities. Highlights include a one-off dinner inside St Fin Barre’s Cathedral, a SUPRA feast by Georgian chefs at St Peter’s, live fire cooking at Elizabeth Fort, and a communal dinner for 100 diners at Marina Market.
Feast of Fire, Co Wexford
Smoke, flame and seriously good barbecue take centre stage at Feast of Fire, a three-day celebration of live fire cooking hosted by Smokin’ Soul from August 14 to 16. Expect pitmasters and chefs cooking over open flames, tasting plates, barbecue masterclasses, live music and plenty of opportunities to sharpen your own grilling skills. Whether you’re a seasoned barbecue enthusiast or simply love food cooked over fire, this is one of the hottest tickets of the summer.
Chill at the Mill, Bolands Mills, Dublin 4
Looking for a free family day out? Chill at the Mill transforms Bolands Mills into a neighbourhood block party on August 15 from 12pm to 6pm, with DJs Graham Smyth, January Winters and SAZ providing the soundtrack. Expect plenty to keep all ages entertained, from children’s discos, face painting and mini golf to beginner Pilates classes with Reformation, alongside food stalls, drinks and, of course, an ice cream van.
Summer Season Series at Bettystown House, Co Meath
Usually reserved for private events, Bettystown House is opening its gates this summer for a series of long-table dinners celebrating the best of Boyne Valley produce. On August 15, executive head chef Aidan Ryan welcomes award-winning chef Chad Byrne of The Brehon, Killarney, for an evening of open fire cooking, with a four-course sharing feast showcasing local ingredients. Set on the estate’s lawns and limited to just 60 guests, tickets (€100) include a welcome cocktail.
Dalkey Lobster Festival, Dalkey, Co Dublin
Seafood lovers should make a beeline for the annual Dalkey Lobster Festival on Saturday August 22 and Sunday 23, when Castle Street is transformed into an open air food village packed with lobster rolls, oysters, mussels, crab claws, paella, chowder and fish and chips. Beyond the food, expect artisan market stalls, live music, family entertainment and a lively festival atmosphere throughout the picturesque coastal town. It’s the perfect excuse for a day by the sea.
