Supporting Small Businesses: Irish Food Delivered

Something for the weekend? Send yourself, or someone else, a delicious food parcel …

With the ‘new normal’ set to continue for quite a while, it is so important now more than ever before that we do our utmost to support local businesses who may be feeling the brunt of this shift in Irish life. Luckily for us, small independent food businesses have adapted and are striving on a daily basis to make staying at home so much easier for those of us lucky enough to be able to do so. There has never been a better time to celebrate quality Irish produce and all that it has to offer. This weekend, sit back, relax and let someone else do the cooking – you’ve earned it.

In Sligo, Pudding Row are continuing with delivery of their Comfort Kit, an artisan care package full to the brim with homemade Pudding Row favourites which is available for delivery nationwide. The package contains a selection of bagels, brownies, caramel squares, vegan treats, homemade granola, jam, chutney and a bag of Wall and Keogh loose leaf tea which would be a welcome gift for anyone who has yet to be introduced to this Sligo favourite. There is also the option to build your own box at www.puddingrow.ie.

In Castlebar, the much lauded Café Rua (pictured above) have expanded their collection service which now includes their delicious homemade ‘heat and eat’ meals including a succulent Sunday roast box which is available for collection on Saturday afternoons. They also stock a wide range of store cupboard essentials including a nice selection of Ocelot chocolate from Scotland, flour, breads, organic eggs, coffee beans and seasonal fruit and vegetables. There is even talk of a Shakshuka box; visit www.caferua.com to order.

Niall Sabongi, of The Seafood Café fame, has gone from strength to strength with his lockdown venture, Sustainable Seafood Ireland. SSI offer a vast selection of freshly caught fish to choose from including cod, salmon and haddock as well as whole halibut or turbot. Just in time for the Christmas season, Sabongi introduced his ‘Seafood Suppers at Home’ which we are delighted to report will continue in 2021. Their NYE feast box featuring lobster, halibut, oysters and caviar was particularly tempting. Now there are both midweek and weekend offerings and each box will feed 2-4 people depending on the appetite, with an option to add starters, wine and sides. www.sustainableseafood.ie

In Co Louth, husband and wife team Maria and David Flynn are offering numerous ways to sample their famous potatoes, previously only found on the menus of Ireland best restaurants. Ballymakenny Farm potatoes have quite the following in food circles and now their famous potatoes are available throughout the country by post, drive-through collection or from a wide variety of stockists. The Pink Fir might just be the most delicious potato we have ever sampled. www.ballymakennyfarm.com

Another darling of Irish Chefs is Andarl Farm and their range of Velvet Pork, now available for delivery. From Pancetta to Porchetta, Andarl Farm supply the finest Irish pork. There is also Mayo lamb and Black Angus Beef available, and the weekend box contains everything you need including a Sunday roast, Saturday night dinner and an Irish breakfast option. www.andarlfarm.ie
