The Council of Irish Fashion Designer’s bi-annual fashion show kicked off on Thursday. The Council of Irish Fashion Designers (CIFD) supports the best homegrown fashion design talent and aims to build international brands of the future. This season’s schedule saw 40 Irish brands present their AW23 collections – and there were more than a few breathtaking evening looks, coats, knits, day dresses and accessories. We noticed that an ever-increasing number of designers are having their designs made in Ireland (many focusing on featuring Irish fabrics like tweed and linen).
Evening wear was the standout of the show with party looks and dramatic gowns stealing the limelight (Caoimhe Murphy, AndTate, Caterina Coyne, Charlotte Lucas and Eadach by Sarah O’Neill). Metallic fashion and accessories also dominated the runway, Kindred Of Ireland’s gold linen coat and Helen Hayes metallic ribbon skirt had a commanding presence as did the metallic leather bags by Landa, Peelo, My Name Is Ted and Ruxx. We couldn’t help but adore the contemporary tailored coats in heritage fabrics (Silvia Ortega and Noema) and the dramatic knitwear collections in a multitude of silhouettes (Urban Aran, Caroline Mitchell, Linda Wilson, Laura Chambers). There were plenty of chic floral dresses to see (Magee 1866, FéRí, Noema, Ejay Griffin, Heidi Higgins x Caroline Duffy and Eadach by Sarah O’Neill) as well as great casualwear by Fauna and Theo + George. She is the queen of no makeup makeup and even manages to make a smokey eye look subtle. When everyone else was going for heavy contour and laminated eyebrows, she continued to promote enhancing your natural features with simple tricks and smart product placement. If you have seen any of her videos, you will notice how little product she actually uses. Even Victoria Beckham commented how surprised she was when she went to remove her makeup after a shoot with Lisa on how little product was applied.
