ON WORK: I work in a studio in North London with my small, brilliant team. I enjoy working with other people. Each person brings a particular point of view when shaping our collections. [Bella Freud recently had a sell-out collaboration with M&S]. The studio is full of things in various stages of development. It is well ordered apart from my desk which is old school messy.
ON MY DESK: I mostly have bits of paper with lists of things I need to remember to do – some have lines through them! And my favourite type of pencil (Bic) and pen (Muji) for drawing. I have a water bottle to keep the brain hydrated, some vitamins, some magical stones supposed to bring in money. And some photographs, taped to the wall behind me.
ON DESIGN INSPIRATION: Reading is a big inspiration for me. Even if the book has nothing to do with clothes it livens up my thoughts and ideas come from that.
ON FASHION: I’ve just launched a podcast called Fashion Neurosis where I interview interesting people (so far I’ve had Rick Owens, Trinny Woodall, Eric Cantona and Courteney Cox) about how fashion has shaped their lives. My guest lies on the couch and I sit in a chair (I know!). It is so much fun. Fashion has had a huge infl uence on my life. I have found that clothes can give me a confi dence which helps me with the initial bits of social interaction – like walking into a room. If I have my outfit right I can forget about myself, I can feel taken care of by my clothes so my thinking is clear and completely available to me.
