Design Talk With Interior Designer Suzie McAdam

In conversation with architect and broadcaster Amanda Bone …

An engaging line-up of speakers and collaborators will bring to life the power and pleasure of good design at the inaugural Design Week Dublin.

DWD highlights the exceptional work of outstanding Irish architects and interior designers whose work is shaping design on the national and international stage.

There has never been a time when Irish designers have been so influential globally.

One such influence is Dublin-based Suzie McAdam who has emerged as one of Ireland and the UK’s most compelling interior designers, celebrated for her ability to transform spaces into narratives that honour history, art and modernity.

After honing her craft in California on high-end residential commissions, she returned to Dublin in 2013 to establish her eponymous studio, quickly becoming a sought-after voice in the design world.

Her portfolio spans the restoration of grand Georgian residences, the reimagining of coastal escapes and the design of luxury hotels – each project revealing a bold visual language rooted in heritage.

Suzie is known for layering eras, creating interiors that are personal, artful and enduring. Her aesthetic strikes a balance: where vintage finds meet contemporary forms, and where colour and texture are composed with curatorial finesse.

Suzie’s work has been featured in Architectural Digest, Vogue, Elle Décor, Homes & Gardens and THE GLOSS INTERIORS.

GEORGIAN HOUSE, CO DUBLIN

Once owned by an eminent Irish family who weren’t averse to putting their stamp on their prestigious properties, this Georgian house on one of Dublin’s prominent squares offers a completely atypical layout, says McAdam: “Most Georgian houses of the period are entered via a narrow hall – here, the righthand wall was removed entirely, probably in the late 18th century, to deliver a bigger view into the reception area. It was entirely panelled in mahogany and, most unusually for Dublin at that time, a marquetry floor was put down.” She counterbalanced this heaviness with lighter elements like theatrical lighting and colourful murals.
