Cool Rugs To Ground A Room

If your room is missing colour, texture or a sense of cosiness, a rug will do the hard work for you and will transform any space. This is the Swedish rug brand to know now …

A great rug is often the anchor that pulls an interior design scheme together. If your room is missing colour, texture or a sense of cosiness, a rug will do the hard work for you and will transform any space. Enter Swedish brand Kasthall. Stocked at Nordic Elements in Blackrock, Kasthall has a long history in creating and producing the most beautiful and durable tufted and woven rugs (from everyday residential rugs to architectural-led designer collaborations, you’ll also find its rugs on the floors of designer fashion stores like Max Mara, Acne Studios and Cos).

Made from the finest quality natural New Zealand wool and European linen, the rugs are made to order, or tailored to your needs by the creative team at Nordic Elements. This week, the Nordic Elements design team welcomed Peter Eriksson and Dovile Meilute from Kasthall to the store to host a creative event where the lucky GLOSS team were able to design their own rugs using the Kasthall Rug Designer Tool (you can also check out the online design tool to give you an idea of what you can expect; www.kasthall.com).

Swedish flatweaves, checkerboard and striped designs are what Kasthall does so well. Tufted rugs are timeless and there’s always a place for them in living rooms and bedrooms: each Kasthall hand-tufted rug is created with strands of natural lusture wool or linen punched through the backing with a tufter to form loops that are then sheared to create piles that make the rug’s surface. With over 20 possible undulating pattern combinations and a dizzying amount of colours, there is something for everyone. It’ll be hard to choose one as they’re all lookers, trust Helle Moyne, owner of Nordic Elements, to come with the goods. Woven rug prices start from €640 a square metre. Nordic Elements, 38 Main Street, Blackrock, Co Dublin; www.nordicelements.com.
