Little Women, Netflix & Prime Video
There have been several adaptations of this 1900’s novel that’s a classic historical drama for generations to love. The 1994 iteration stars Susan Sarandon, Gabriel Byrne, Winona Ryder, Claire Danes, Kirsten Dunst and Christian Bale while the 2019 version directed by Greta Gerwig stars her favourite Saoirse Ronan, Meryl Streep, Laura Dern, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh and Timothée Chalamet.

Mamma Mia, Prime Video & Apple TV
These jukebox musical romcoms directed by Phyllida Lloyd and written by Catherine Johnson, based on her book from the 1999 musical of the same name, celebrate the music of super pop group ABBA, which your mum should know! The franchise’s award-winning cast is second to none, from Meryl Streep and Julie Walters to Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Dominic Cooper and Amanda Seyfried.

Mother’s Day, Netflix & Prime Video
This romcom from 2016 also features an outstanding cast including Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson, Jason Sudeikis, Timothy Olyphant and Jack Whitehall. While it was panned by critics, it’s hard not to appreciate talent of that calibre, especially as it’s famed director Garry Marshall’s last film.

Bridget Jones, Prime Video
Renée Zellweger is so loveable in this film series that is bound to have you and your mum in stitches, no matter how many times you watch them! From Bridget Jones‘s Diary to The Edge Of Reason, Bridget Jones’s Baby and this year’s Mad About the Boy, we can’t get enough of Bridge and her fabulous friends, plus the men in her life including (Richard Curtis favourite) Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Patrick Dempsey, Leo Woodall and Chiwetel Ejiofer.

Lady Bird, Netflix
This 2017 coming-of-age comedy drama, written and directed by Greta Gerwig in her directorial debut, stars Saoirse Ronan and Timothée Chalamet again, in one of his first major movie roles. The mother and daughter relationship portrayed between Saoirse and Laurie Metcalf is one of the best you’ll see on screen.

Derry Girls, Netflix & Channel 4 Player
A teen sitcom set in 1990’s Northern Ireland during the final years of the Troubles, written and created by Derry girl Lisa McGee, it’s Channel 4’s most successful comedy since Father Ted and is a series we’ll watch for years to come. Tara Lynne O’Neill plays the perfect Irish matriarch alongside Tommy Tiernan, with Siobhán McSweeney and Philippa Dunne adding some extra comic relief.

Motherland, Netflix & Disney+
This British sitcom on the trials of middle-class mothers in London, co-written by Graham Linehan and Sharon Horgan – the brains behind Father Ted and Bad Sisters, respectively – is so good that it led to a spin-off this year in Amandaland, also starring Philippa Dunne and Siobhán McSweeney.

The Letdown, Netflix
This Australian mini series boasts a 100 per cent score on Rotten Tomatoes, with many comparing it to Motherland. It follows the early days of an eclectic mothers’ group that will be so relatable to a lot of mums!
