Choose An Irish-Made Sofa This Summer

IN PARTNERSHIP WITH FINLINE FURNITURE

Discover this Irish furniture company with sustainability and style at its heart …

Irish-made, designed to last – that’s the ethos of Finline, a family-run furniture maker based in Emo, Co Laois. Inspired by Irish heritage and a commitment to world-class design, Finline has been handcrafting quality sofas and chairs in the Emo factory for nearly half a century. Inherently sustainable, Finline’s eco-friendly credentials pre-date current trends by many years – its founders were pioneers.

Kieran and Bridget Finane established Finline in 1979 after they noticed a lack of stylish, high-quality, Irish-made sofas and chairs on the market. With the support of friends and family, the husband-and-wife team started designing what they had been looking for to furnish their own home – comfortable, well-designed furniture that would last a lifetime. Since then, their sons Ciaran and Kilian have joined Finline as the business embarks on its second chapter.

Every piece of Finline furniture is still made on site at the factory in the beautifully picturesque village of Emo, Co Laois. Clients can visit the factory and showrooms (a new Dublin flagship store will open on the Long Mile Road this summer), meet the Finline family and experience the quality craftsmanship up close. A sustainable local Irish business that can produce incredibly stylish, well-made furniture deserves our support.

Finline is also a significant employer, employing almost 80 people. Many skilled craftspeople work on the production line in the Emo factory, some of them second-generation makers. From dedicated frame makers and fabric cutters to a talented line-up of seamstresses, upholsterers and cushion fillers – not to mention the skilled sales and management teams – the Finline family harnesses over 500 years of combined experience in the furniture industry. Founder Kieran has travelled across Europe sourcing quality, exclusive fabrics directly from renowned mills, and frames are hand-carved from kiln-dried beech (the best hardwood for upholstered frames) and carefully assembled in Emo.

Finline offers a wide range of different models of sofas, chairs, sofabeds and headboards, where customers have the choice of format, size, fabric and trim. It’s a model focused on a quality product made to customer preferences, ensuring comfort, longevity and most importantly, a sustainable, stock-free, make-local, shop-local approach. Finline’s motto and advice to clients is, buy it once, buy it right. Care and integrity are the hallmark of every piece and that extends to design – Finline makes classic, whether contemporary or traditional in line and form, that will never go out of style.

In August, Finline is also proud to launch Revive, a unique take-back programme to reduce the number of sofas going to landfill. Given the quality of its frames, Finline will reward you as they take back your old sofa and give it a second-life make-over. Skilled members of the social enterprise group Aiséirí will work with Finline on the restorations. These beautiful, pre-loved sofas will be on sale from Finline showrooms: they look as good as new and will cost a fraction of the usual retail price.

2024 marks Finline’s 45th year in business, and to mark the anniversary, a new Dublin flagship store on the Long Mile Road will open later this summer – the entire Finline range will be on display in an inspirational setting. Finline’s current Long Mile Road location remains open until then, or you can visit showrooms in Laois, Cork, Dublin or Galway. See addresses below.
