Dig in to this foodie series of events …
With the Michelin Guide landing in Dublin, the city’s kitchens and bars are throwing a very Irish welcome party. Expect pop-ups, collaborations, late nights and early starts – a loose, walkable trail of one-off events adding extra flavour, fun and a bit of mischief to awards weekend.
Marcus O’Laoire x Thom Lawson at Rei Momo, February 7
Michelin weekend kicks off with a joyful nod to the old “substantial meal” era, minus the fluorescent lights and cross dinner ladies. At Rei Momo, Marcus O’Laoire and Thom Lawson serve their new-school take on chicken in a basket: dende and urucum half chicken, malagueta chimichurri and chips, all landing in that classic red plastic tray. There’s a DJ, a raffle ticket with every basket, and absolutely no intention of turning the music down. From 6pm till late; €20 per basket.
Barry Sun x Hang Dai, February 8
This one feels inevitable in hindsight. Volpe Nera’s Barry Sun brings his light, elegant hand, and his Northern Chinese roots, into Hang Dai’s maximalist playground for a buzzy, family-style supper. Expect oysters, dumplings in broth and char siu tart to start, followed by sharing dishes down the middle – crispy pork, black bean sea bass, typhoon cabbage and aubergine mapo with green Sichuan pepper ice cream to finish. Afterwards, things drift upstairs to the Gold Bar for drinks and dancing. There are two sittings (4pm-5pm and 7.15pm-8.30pm) at €80 per person including a cocktail or glass of Champagne.
Cúán Greene x Frank’s Wine Bar, February 8
Chef-owner of upcoming Ómós, Cúán Greene channels his Copenhagen years and Denmark’s other great culinary gift to the world – with hot dogs at Frank’s. There’ll be two: one classic pølse, one seasonal and more left-field, served simply, quickly and very much first-come, first-served. They’re made to be eaten with a glass of something interesting from Frank’s natural-leaning wine list. From 5pm until sold out; walk-ins only.
Mark Moriarty x Egan’s x Bar 1661, February 9
Monday morning gets a glamorous reboot at Egan’s, where Mark Moriarty teams up with Bar 1661 for what is essentially a top-shelf breakfast muffin moment. His version of a certain fast-food classic comes stuffed with double sausage patties, melted lardo, Irish cheddar and spicy dill pickle mayo. Drinks are decidedly grown-up: Belfast Coffees, Bloody Monks, or a Midleton Very Rare Irish Coffee, with the latest Midleton vintage available to taste neat. From 10.30am to 1.30pm; €25 per person.
The Sisters of Smithfield at Fidelity, February 9
Chef Chun Li and DJ Sally Cinnamon close out the sessions with the gloriously named Swanky Swanky Spice Bags. This is not your average bag: Irish lobster, confit duck, master stock short ribs, mini edamame spring rolls and parmesan potato puffs, all backed by serious tunes from one of the country’s most respected selectors. From 8pm to 12am; €22 per person.
