Checking In: Regency House, Belfast

What’s the verdict? …

VIBE Boutique townhouse in Belfast’s Queen’s Quarter exuding poshness without pretension. “Humble hospitality” is its service mantra.

NEED TO KNOW Owned by Anthony and Andrea Kieran, Regency House is the culmination of a four-year multi-phase £7m restoration project of two interconnecting townhouses by GMR Architects, Noel Savage Construction and interior designer Orla Higgins. The result: an elegant five-star property awarded a Michelin key, the only one in Northern Ireland.

Loft Suite Bedroom.

ROOMS Eight, including an accessible bedroom, in various sizes, decorated in an understated style incorporating original features – exposed brickwork and interesting antique elements. All are an exquisite mix of comfort and covetable design elements. An additional six suites offer one- and two-bedrooms with smart kitchen-cum-living spaces perfect for self-catering seclusion or extended stays. The Presidential suite is named after former guests, the Clintons.

I came away with inspiration for a bathroom makeover following a stay in the Courtyard Suite which had a gas fire, record player, lovely kitchen and living space (complete with Quooker taps, DeLonghi bean-to-cup coffee machine) and an outdoor space with fire pit. Amenities by Le Labo (Santal 33) are complemented by pillow spray and eye cream by The White Company. All guests have complimentary access to a Wellness Suite with jacuzzi, sauna, gym and hot tub, as well as a small Vinyl Library.

DINING Breakfast is served in the airy ground floor restaurant overlooking Crescent Gardens, which is open to non-residents for brunch (order the signature pancakes or cheese and onion omelette). Chef Chris McClurg also provides tempting menus for lunch and dinner in The Drawing Room, currently for residents only, with plans to open to non-residents later in 2026.

Junior Heritage Bathroom.

DO Enquire about private events, which can be catered for up to 56 seated in Crescent One, a standalone event space. Small wedding receptions are popular, especially if you want a Bridgerton-style backdrop for photos. Browse the local shops, especially Books Paper Scissors and Herbert Gould for homewares.

BOOK: Overnight stays are from £240stg or £375stg if staying in a suite.
