Check Out These New Restaurants, Cafés & Pop-ups In Dublin & Sligo

Delicious things are coming …

Lauren’s Patisserie, Drumcliffe, Co Sligo

Laura McLoughlin, a qualified pastry chef with more than 10 years experience at some of the world’s most celebrated patisseries, is opening her own cake and coffee shop on Valentine’s Day. A native of Drumcliffe, Lauren honed her skills at renowned establishments including Le Petit Caporal in France, Peggy Porschen in London, Gleneagles in Scotland and Ashford Castle here in Ireland.

Lauren was working in London when she came home for a holiday in 2020 and couldn’t return because of the pandemic. She had always wanted to run her own business, so she began wholesaling desserts to hotels, cafés and restaurants. She now has clients nationwide, sourcing the highest-quality ingredients including Benbulben eggs, and the finest Belgian chocolate and cocoa powder. She also caters for weddings and corporate events.

If you’re looking for a great bake in a classic patisserie, this is the place to be! @laurens_patisserie_22

Old Fashioned Sam’s & Laura’s Restaurant, Dublin

Dublin’s newest multi-storey destination, Old Fashioned Sam’s has unveiled its new rooftop restaurant, Laura’s. Renovated from a former pub, guests can enjoy a ground-floor cocktail bar that opens into Dublin’s largest heated courtyard (with a retractable roof for warmer days), a café-style front bar perfect for lunch and Sam’s parlour: an intimate bar with a 1920s speakeasy aesthetic. Expect seasonal menus including fillet steak, lobster bisque, pan-fried Halibut, tuna tartare and grilled gambas. @lauras.restaurant

Brother Bean, Ballinteer Road, Dublin

Ballinteer locals delight as a new quality coffee spot has opened right in the neighbourhood. Brother Bean café also serves as a mobile café, coffee educator and retailer, with its goal to make great coffee accessible. It brings its speciality Creed Coffee, delicious baked goods from Rua Foods and Golden Brown sandwiches – who specialise in creating gourmet toasties using a combination of fresh, local, Irish produce and high-quality Italian ingredients, artisan sourdough from Bretzel Bakery and cheese from West Cork. Other locations can be found at Newtown Park in Blackrock and on Bracken Road in Sandyford. @brotherbeancoffee

Pop-up Event: Another Sunday Lunch, Mowgli, Dublin

Mowgli, a roaming kitchen of produce lead cooking, will stop off at Leonard’s Corner on February 23. Mowgli is the project of Tom Hayes, whose cooking is shaped by his time at Ballymaloe Cookery School, The River Café in London, Surt in Copenhagen, and most recently Allta in Dublin. Mowgli has popped up in some special places — an open-fire lunch at Body & Soul, a long-table feast in a 400-year-old hay shed, and a weekend of natural wine and clams at Dick Mack’s in Dingle. @mowglibusiness
