Charlotte Tilbury Lights Up Dublin

Charlotte Tilbury’s Holiday Collection has arrived – and here is what to go for…

It was a fabulous evening at Brown Thomas Grafton Street last night, with Charlotte Tilbury in action. Wearing deep purple velvet, she gave an exclusive skincare and party beauty masterclass, and showed off her latest Holiday “treasures, treats and trinkets”. She always loves to visit Ireland – with her Irish roots (she has an Irish passport), she feels very at home here.

As always Charlotte started the demo with skincare – her mantra is: whatever look you do, it’s vital to have a great canvas. Her Magic Cream is the bedrock of her entire range, and it’s a huge hit with guys too, she tells us. She describes her skincare as delivering red-carpet results, immediately: “We’re all about democratising Hollywood glamour.”

This is certainly not a beauty range that’s restricted to 20-year-olds. The most exciting items for me include the new daily essential, Beautiful Skin Radiant Concealer (€30). Ever the unparalleled marketeer, Tilbury describes this as “shapewear for the eyes and the face”, making us all instantly want to stockpile it. She demonstrated how a streak up and under eyes gives an instant lift.

I’m also very into her Flawless Primer SPF50 – “It’s non-irritating for eyes and works as a shield against UVA rays and also blue light and pollution,” says Tilbury. Not many SPF50s are as easy and light to wear, giving a great base for make-up while protecting your skin. Another staple is her Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder, apparently the bestselling powder in various locations including the UK. There are many make-up artist staples in the range: in fact, for our October fashion shoot in The Gloss, Dearbhla Keenan, make-up manager for Sugar Culture, used Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter (€44) as a primer on the high points of the face.

For party season glamour, brand-new is the super-glam Pillow Talk Beautifying Face Palette (€75). But if I were to pick just one item from the entire glut of gorgeous things, it would be the emerald-green Hypnotising Pop Shot (€30) – as Tilbury demonstrates, a single dot of this applied with your finger to the centre of your eyelid is enough to see you through the evening with a sparkle. I love the disco vibe of this, and the fact it stays put, rather than dropping down off your lids.

I’m also very partial to the Walk of No Shame berry lipstick shade. Charlotte is the self-styled “queen of glow” and her Beauty Light Wands are indeed brilliant: these tubes with sponge applicator make it incredibly easy to swipe light onto your face, even for novices. Expensive-looking skin-brightening in an instant.

For gifts, which start from under €35, one of the more extravagant is Charlotte’s Diamond Chest of Beauty Stars (€185), a set of drawers containing 12 star items, including the brilliant Beauty Light Wand (a very easy way to get glowing skin). This year’s is pink; I still have last year’s bronze version, and keep my jewellery in it, while the mini skin and make-up items are great for travelling with all year.
