Meet The Irish Hairdresser Who Counts J-Lo, Megan Fox and the Kardashians As Clients

From Dublin to LA, celebrity hairdresser Andrew Fitzsimons is putting a new spin on home styling with his new hair range at Boots – all under €17 …

Look out for a new hair line just landed in Boots Ireland stores and www.Boots.ie – LA-based Dubliner Andrew Fitzsimons works with celebrities in Hollywood (from J-Lo and Bella Hadid and beyond) and has created his own hair line, with a wide range of care and styling products, all priced under €17 (plus they’re vegan and cruelty-free).

Working in hair from the age of 13, Fitzsimons made the journey from Ballinteer to LA via Paris and New York. The first celebrity he worked with? He remembers working with Adele before she was known in the US, and seeing her become a star there almost overnight. He’s adamant that he wanted to shake up the haircare market with his hair line, making sure it is “inclusive and responsible, and accessible to everyone –  but often this can be boring, so I wanted to do all this but in a really exciting and modern way.” It’s accessible in terms of price and also relevance – there’s a product here for every hair type, from Curl Texture Spray to a Purple range for blonde and highlighted hair.

We’ll be trying the AF1 Restructuring Leave-in Conditioner, €16.99 a ten in one conditioning product, and the Model Volume Wave Spray (€14.49) which you use on wet hair “so you can style on the go” – it’s the hair equivalent of no-make-up make-up. “I use it on literally everyone,” says Fitzsimons. “It’s the ultimate zero heat, minimum effort, maximum impact product.” At the core of the range is the “skinification” of hair – so applying ingredients and technology you might have only previously seen in skincare products, such as caffeine and hyaluronic acid, and working to enhance your own hair texture rather than mask or change it. Scalp care is a big focus. “Our curly hair range is the biggest range, as that’s the most diverse category,” notes Fitzsimons.

As for trends, “short hair has made a massive comeback,” he notes. “We’re seeing a lot of late 80s/early 90s hair styles, from the mullet to the shorter crop. Lots of short textured haircuts. There’s far more diversity and people are more willing to play with their own hair texture. Now of course you can have waist-length hair without waiting for it to grow, with extensions.”
