IN PARTNERSHIP WITH AIRFIELD ESTATE

This summer, from July to September, experience four weekends of fun for the whole family at Airfield Estate, Dundrum …

Summer has arrived, the kids are almost finished school, and we’re all looking for ways to fill the weekends. While we wait patiently for the sun to stick around for longer than a single afternoon, we’re making plans that aren’t necessarily good weather dependent, when trips to the beach and picnics in the park can’t be arranged in advance…

One series of events that we’re looking forward to is Airfield Estate’s summer line-up of family festivals. If you haven’t visited Airfield Estate before, situated in Dundrum, the 38-acre estate features a farm, beautiful gardens, a playground, regular farmers markets and Overends Restaurant – this hidden gem is where people go for a breath of fresh air in the heart of Dublin. And this summer, there’s even more to enjoy: visitors can experience four themed weekends packed with festival vibes and sustainable delights from June right through to September. The Airfield Summer Series 2024 will embrace all aspects of sustainability from health to food production and nature all in a fun way that will engage the whole family!

Individual event tickets range from €8 to €15, which is equivalent to the price of a day ticket to Airfield Estate. With an Annual Pass, you’ll unlock access to The Airfield Summer Series 2024! You will also have access to Airfield Estate year-round while supporting Airfield as an educational charity and its mission to be Dublin’s sustainable food hub. An annual pass is great value for families, individuals, and anyone passionate about sustainability.

So gather the troops, pack up the car and hit the road to Airfield Estate, Dundrum. Here’s what’s in store this summer:

APPETITE @ AIRFIELD, Saturday July 20th

Experience a vibrant day of music, comedy, food and more at Appetite @ Airfield, a one-day festival which will bring music, comedy, interactive activities, workshops, talks and of course great food to Airfield. Join in on a Acai Bowl making class with the guys from Roots or a non-alcoholic cocktail demo with Fire & Fifth. Laugh out loud to a comedy set with Craic Den Comedy Club featuring two-thirds of the Young Hot Guys Podcast Killian Sundermann, Shane Daniel Byrne and more! Enjoy meditation and yoga session with Sunflower Sessions. Take a trip to the Airfield Estate Sustainable Market to see some of Ireland’s small sustainable businesses. Come along to panel talks with speakers such as Sian Conway and chef Conor Spacey. Enjoy all this and lots more on the 20th of July, tickets between €8-€15 and free for Airfield Estate members. Who should attend? Young people and the young at heart!

NATURE FEST, Saturday August 17th – Sunday August 18th

A family festival filled with exploration, learning and lots of fun, unlock the wonder of nature and discover the wild plants and animals that call Airfield Estate home. Families can enjoy a nature scavenger hunt across the 38-acre estate, while learning about biodiversity, science, sustainability and nature through play! Through hands-on workshops, theatrical storytelling, face-painting and expert talks, it will be a fun-filled weekend for the whole family. Who should attend? Nature-lovers, families, and anyone curious to learn more about biodiversity and wildlife.

URBAN HARVEST FESTIVAL, Saturday September 14th – Sunday September 15th

As Dublin’s sustainable food hub and urban farm, where better to host the Urban Harvest Festival than Airfield Estate? Urban Harvest Festival is a celebration of farming, food and nature. This event aims to deepen understanding and appreciation of farming and to diminish the urban/rural divide of communities – but in a fun way! It will be Airfield Estate’s version of the Ploughing Championship, without the actual ploughing. Attendees will be immersed in agricultural traditions such as sheep-shearing, sheep-dog trials and cattle displays. Traditional craftsmanship will be showcased with wood turning and wool spinning. While butter-making and butchery demonstrations will reveal the age-old skills behind farm-to-fork cuisine. Who should attend? Anyone interested in a fun day out, food lovers and families.
