Book Ahead For These Father’s Day Feasts

June 19 is just around the corner, book one of these food and wine experiences for the dad in your life …

Father’s Day is an important day in the Irish calendar to show appreciation for all the dads and father figures in our lives, young and old. And what better way to mark the occasion than with a foodie feast fit for a king? Here are five ways to celebrate the Superman in your life.

Steak and Wine at Dorian, Donnybrook

It seems fitting to open with Dorian in Donnybrook considering the inspiration for the venture was born from owner Alex Farrell’s experience of her father’s memorable dinners at home during the pandemic. Situated right in the beating heart of Dublin 4, the menu consists of a selection of excellent nibbles and small plates, followed by a choice of more substantial mains that change regularly. The small plates make it perfect for a post work catch up over a Pineapple Margarita with a plate of the stunning Korean cauliflower wings – which incidentally were among the best I have ever tried. However it’s the signature Cote du Boeuf with wild garlic butter (along with a glass of the restaurant’s own ‘Dorian’ label wine from Burgundy) that would make a Father’s Day feast to remember. www.dorian.ie

The Traditional Sunday Lunch at Bistro One, Foxrock

Sadly, Chef Rory Shannon and the team at Bistro one in Foxrock announced recently that Bistro One as we know it will cease to exist as of July 2. Happily, the premises will soon be reborn as an authentic northern Italian trattoria and pizzeria with open fire grilled meats and fish cooked to order. Exciting stuff indeed, but for those with a searing need to enjoy one last legendary Sunday lunch at Bistro One, Father’s Day offers the perfect occasion. www.bistro-one.ie

Father’s Day hampers from Fallon & Byrne

Not all of us will be able to spend Father’s Day with our dad’s this year – but thankfully Fallon & Byrne have come to the rescue. Their selection of hampers make a great gift for anyone that enjoys the finer things in life, notably, indulgent food and fine wine. From cheese to wine, caviar to champagne, your dad will thank you. www.fallonandbyrne.com

Cocktails, Oysters and Seafood Platters at The Belvedere Terrace, The Shelbourne Hotel

A serene hideaway from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, The Terrace at The Shelbourne is the perfect place to treat dad to classic cocktails and a seafood platter that will wow. Belvedere Vodka began their summer residency at The Shelbourne earlier this month and their collection of bespoke cocktails will only be around until September making this Father’s Day the perfect time to indulge in a classic Belvedere martini, served from the martini trolley. www.theshelbourne.com

The Pappy Van Winkle Tasting Evening at The Sidecar, The Westbury

It might fall just before Father’s Day, but Bourbon loving dad’s will happily elevate you to ‘golden child’ status should you gift him tickets to this event taking place on Tuesday, June 14. The evening will be hosted by Drew Mayville, Master Blender for Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve Bourbons and guests will experience five of Pappy Van Winkle’s exceptional bourbons with a selection of individually paired canapés by executive chef Sandeep Singh. Tickets are €175. www.sevenrooms.com/events/thesidecar

For The Barbecue Maestro – A Lobster BBQ Box From Saltwater Grocery

It may be a tad cliche, but most dads love a good barbecue, and the Saltwater Grocery Father’s Day Lobster BBQ Box is barbecue 2.0. Each box contains a box of Irish oysters with an oyster shucking knife, mignonette vinaigrette, a bottle of Picpoul De Pinet, 2 whole split Lambay Island lobsters with garlic and sumac butter, Saltwater potato salad, Saltwater slaw, fresh corn, lobster crackers and lobster picks. The kit costs €90 and seems like a no brainer to us. www.saltwatergrocery.ie
