The headline opera of the Blackwater Valley Opera Festival, A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Benjamin Britten, opened the seven-day festival on the grounds of Lismore Castle, Co Waterford. Directed by Tony Award-winning Patrick Mason, with the Irish Chamber Orchestra conducted by David Brophy, this landmark staging performed over four nights stars an all-Irish cast, set and lighting design by Paul Keogan, and costumes by Catherine Fay.

Celebrating its 15th anniversary year, Ireland’s leading summer opera festival features world-class performances and bespoke dining experiences in historic homes and venues in Lismore, Youghal, Dungarvan and Castlemartyr, as well as innovative programmes that bring opera and classical music to new audiences.
Over 5,000 people are expected to attend the festival during the packed programme of opera, concerts and recitals. With both ticketed and free events staged across Waterford and East Cork, the festival showcases some of Ireland and Europe’s finest classical performers and introduces new audiences to the power of live opera in remarkable settings.
