These Irish silk items for summer add luxury to everyday life …
How do you make a journey feel luxurious? I’ve always loved those articles about what editors take with them when they travel. During the 1990s, this would invariably include Ghost dresses (rolled up to make space in the suitcase), a pashmina and espadrilles. And on the beauty front, a bottle of coconut-scented sun oil, with rarely an SPF in sight.
Things have moved on. We’ve become more savvy about our travel beauty bag, and now fill our cases with factor 50. We’ll also wear a richer moisturiser on the day of travel: something like Augustinus Bader’s Ultimate Soothing Cream, perhaps with a few drops of face oil added, to give lasting hydration while we get from A to B. Face mists also help to refresh and hydrate the skin while in transit – throw in a mini spray, such as Codex Radiance Mist. Add in a multitasking balm, such as L’Occitane’s Petit Remede (€12), for lips, brows, body and hair. And a KDK eyemask in pistachio silk (€50) to ensure maximum beauty sleep.
A giant scarf is still incredibly useful, to double as a sarong and keep you warm in the evenings and while travelling: KDK’s large Cashmere Bamboo wraps (€150) are soft and durable. In fact, KDK have an entire suitcase-full of great ideas for making summer more glamorous, whether we’re at home or away. Their Summer Edit features a complete range of items that are both beautiful and useful, from beach wraps and kaftans to silk dresses, eye masks, scarves and headbands, plus cool, crisp cotton pyjamas.
Protect your hair (and add colour to every outfit) with a silk headband (€40); the silk scrunchies (available as skinny and chunkier ones, from €25 for three) are also kinder to sun-frazzled hair and will be infinitely useful all summer (being honest, we aspire to the silk pillowcases, too). And if you’re looking to add one key piece to your suitcase, KDK’s kaftan dresses come in a variety of unique prints and luxurious fabrics, from crepe de chine to silk, which are kind to the skin, comfortable and easy to wash. The versatile Laguna kaftan, in 100 per cent silk (€210), is too beautiful to keep just for holidays: wear endlessly and treasure. Also look out for the Silk Pyjamas (€210) in hydrangea-blue or gold; they are as beautiful and classic as designer brands costing more than twice the price. Here comes the summer …
