Elevate Your Work Wardrobe With These Essential Accessories

How to accessorise from head to toe. Aislinn Coffey informs us of the definite dos for elevating your work wardrobe this season …

THE COAT If you invest in one new workwear piece this season, make it a longline wool coat with sharp peak or notch labels. A great coat works like magic, transforming an otherwise minimal-effort look into a smart outfit. Irish label The Landskein or Cos’s cool but classic cuts will be on constant rotation for years to come. Layer an Yves Soloman padded hood bib underneath on colder days (at www.samuicork.com and www.costumedublin.ie) If you are in the market for something a little bit less formal, you can’t go wrong with a down puffer coat. This season’s smartest versions fall either just about the thigh or under the knee.

THE BAG Finishing touches can truly transform an outfit, so invest in a good bag. Our choice? Sleek, understated polished leather front flap bags with multiple handy concertina-style pockets. You will need a generously sized version to stow a tablet, phone or diary and all your other essentials.

THE SHOES When it comes to office dressing, leather knee-high boots with a comfortable block heel deliver understated oomph, while kitten-heel pumps (wear tights even if they are slingback) are comfortable and look good. Heritage-style loafers are another go-to that keeps your look modern.

THE PANTS From the 1980s wide-leg versions to statement prints and paintbox brights: this season we are seeing trousers as an appealing alternative to party dresses. Extrovert dressers will enjoy the jazzy printed varieties on offer while the more minimalist-inclined should head over to The Frankie Shop for crisp tailored iterations that will pair beautifully with pointed kitten-heels and a silky cami. For classic dressers, it goes without saying, black trousers and a designer belt is a staple combination that is always in fashion.
