Let’s talk pans!
Here is the reason why I think stainless steel pans are a must-have; most non-stick pans contain Teflon, which can become toxic if scratched or overused. Stainless steel, on the other hand, lasts for years when used and cleaned properly – and it looks brand new! If you heat stainless steel on medium heat for 2-3 minutes before cooking, it will act just like a non-stick pan (more information here).
My favourite stainless steel pans:
Made In: My go-to brand for reliable, high-quality stainless steel pans. They’re pricy but built to last a lifetime. I have a few in various sizes.
La Sauteuse Idéale, Atma Kitchenware: La Sauteuse Idéale (26cm) is perfect for everyday cooking, ragùs, sauces, or dishes that move from stovetop to oven. I often roast chicken in this and make gravy from the juices.
Vogue Frying pan, Nisbets: My most-used pan (28cm), great for smaller meals. It’s compact, high-sided, and versatile.
Vogue Baking Trays: These are life-changing, especially the smaller ones. Perfect for roasting when cooking for one or two. I gave these as gifts last year and my family still raves about them.
Microplane: The ultimate kitchen gift to yourself. Every chef swears by these, and if I had to pick just one thing from this list, it’d be this.
Peeler: Simple, effective, a must-have. Especially a good one.
Table Magazine: One of the best food magazines out there filled with amazing stories. The photography alone is worth getting it for. Independently owned by two women (Ola Smit and Lizzie Mayson) and something they’ll have on their coffee table or bookshelf forever.
Seasonal Calendar: A beautifully illustrated calendar with seasonal produce tips and recipes from chefs like Meera Sodha and Benjamina Ebuehi, illustrated by Emma Cantlay. It’s practical and gorgeous. Check out Emmas Instagram; @mainlybreakfast
Yarmouth Oilskin Apron: Durable, stylish, and timeless. Fortnum and Mason even uses these as their uniform! I have the blue one and I will keep it forever.
Olive oil
Forget about bringing wine to a dinner party in the new year – quality olive oil is the way to go. It’s thoughtful, practical, and feels luxurious. Here are my favourites:
Olive Oil Guy: Single-origin Koroneiki olives in recyclable tins with sleek packaging.
Citizens of Soil: Beautiful bottles with the option of getting a refill subscription in the post so you can keep the same bottle.
Honest Oil: Sustainably produced extra virgin olive oil from Greece, hand-harvested and eco-friendly.
Wind Shore: Donal Skehan’s new harvest collection from Spain, made with premium Picual olives and cold-pressed for exceptional freshness.
Karyatis by Odysea: Affordable and versatile Mediterranean blend, perfect for everyday cooking.
