IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE COACH HOUSE
A country pub with cosy bedrooms, characterful interiors and seriously good food …
The Coach House, a 19th-century pub with rooms in the charming village of Roundwood, Co Wicklow opened last year after an 18-month renovation. Crackling fires, antique oils and moss-green walls form the backdrop for pints at the bar, with comfort-food seasonal classics in the dining room. Muddy-booted hikers and designer-clad diners are equally welcome in this stylish countryside spot, snaffling locally sourced and organic produce cooked to perfection. It has already been acknowledged by the Michelin Guide as “good food worth a detour”.
On the menu are autumnal dishes such as Venison Sausages and Mash, hearty pub classics such as Higgins Beef Cheek Cottage Pie, and classic Croque Monsieur. There are also elegant plates like Sheelagh’s Beetroot, St Tola Goats’ Cheese, Orange, Hazelnuts and Salsa Verde, and Salt & Pepper Donegal Squid. The bar is stocked with craft beer and local ciders, while the wines are first-rate.
Graduating from pub to restaurant-with-rooms in 2023, The Coach House has six characterful bedrooms with antique rugs, velvet curtains, earthy shades of tongue and groove, and linen and towels from The White Company.
The Coach House embraces the area’s traditions but is a bit of fun too, so why not treat yourself to a delicious lunch, dinner and overnight stay after walking the Wicklow hills, or book the private dining room for a special occasion.
The Coach House has a selection of delightful antiques, gifts and market finds for sale. It’s also adjacent to The Roundwood Stores artisan food shop housed in the old stables and courtyard next door where you can pick up freshly baked bread, wholesome salads, fresh vegetables and delicious local fare.
Open Thursday to Saturday for lunch from 12pm to 3.30pm and for dinner from 5:30pm to 8.30pm. Open Sundays and bank holidays from 1pm to 6pm. www.thecoachhouse.ie.
