Do not dismiss the appeal – and versatility – of a humble blue shirt this season. We’ve rounded up an edit of the chicest wardrobe basic there is …
Pare back every spring trend, every moment of trend-driven frivolity and what consistently remains? An old reliable shirt. Not that the trusty button-down can’t be indulgent – the gamut of shirting options below proves that a good shirt can stretch from €20 on the high street to designer brands with luxury price points.
What’s the appeal? It remains effortless. There are too many women to name who look louche, sexy and confident in simple shirting; from a 1970s Charlotte Rampling or Jane Birkin, to Jean Seberg in the 1958 Riviera classic Bonjour Tristesse, who shrugs a blue linen shirt over her signature red swimsuit.
Spring’s options are gladly on the classic side. But if you are looking to experiment, Etro’s multi-coloured panel shirt injects some fun into a classic piece, without straying too far from the original. Meanwhile, fancy collars with ric-rac or embellishment are never too far when you’re scrolling Instagram or shopping sites. However, we like our shirting pretty classic: blue, narrow striped and fashioned in a linen-cotton mix. Shop some of our favourites below.

She is the queen of no makeup makeup and even manages to make a smokey eye look subtle. When everyone else was going for heavy contour and laminated eyebrows, she continued to promote enhancing your natural features with simple tricks and smart product placement. If you have seen any of her videos, you will notice how little product she actually uses. Even Victoria Beckham commented how surprised she was when she went to remove her makeup after a shoot with Lisa on how little product was applied.
