These denim skirts feel fresh and ready for spring …
We fell in love (again) with the denim skirt when we saw it on the runway at Ulla Johnson at New York Fashion Week – the length was long (but not too long), the style was prairie but wearable, and – best of all! – it had pockets. That being said, not all of the renditions this season look so easy to wear. Our advice? Keep things clean: look to unfussy denim styles, that is washes sans embellishment, excessive fraying or rips – basically avoid anything too Y2K. A-line shapes flatter, however straight styles work too. For ease, we’d recommend wearing one with a slit – other styles will only restrict your movement, leaving you to shuffle, penguin-style on the walk to work.
Lastly, a word on length. While fashion is bouncing between ultra-maxi lengths and super short minis, we’ll be sticking to the old classic midi, thank you very much. It’s a style that flatters, once it cuts you in the right place. Equally, an asymmetric hem is appealing – see the variation below from Jigsaw. Finally, if you’re stuck on how to style your denim skirt, simply treat it as you would a pair of jeans. Breton tops, romantic blouses and Oxford shirts are all good examples here (balance shorter hemlines with long sleeves). Scroll below for the skirt styles we think work best.
