7 Glossy Things To Do This Week

By Penny McCormick

Shop, spa, see and sleep better! The events and pop-ups to book this week …

SEE: Making Space, an artist-led pop-up exhibition in Fumbally, The Liberties, which was initiated in part to address the ongoing lack of gallery spaces in Dublin. It’s an interesting mix of seven artists, with several events taking place in neighbouring venues, on until October 18. www.fumballyexchange.com

ESCAPE: Autumn is one of the most rewarding times to visit Westport town when its cultural calendar includes the Westport Festival of Chamber Music and Westival, the town’s annual music and arts festival. Guests of The Grace can stroll into the centre of the town to browse independent galleries, boutiques and cafés before settling into the legendary traditional music sessions at the renowned Matt Molloy’s pub. A further incentive, from October 18-20, The Grace has a special two-night Into the West hiking retreat. Led by a local guide from Terra Firma participants take two hikes through the surrounding countryside, with trail lunches prepared for the journey and dinner each evening at Black Sheep. A Ground treatment in the hotel spa brings welcome recovery after time on the trails, while an optional sea swim at Old Head Beach offers a bracing finish! www.thegrace.ie

WIN: To celebrate its latest store opening, Natural Sleep is inviting guests to a special showroom event on Saturday, October 10, from 10am to 5pm at Long Mile Road, Walkinstown, Dublin 12. During that time there will be a panel discussion, between 12 noon-1pm, hosted by interiors and sustainability journalist Jo Linehan in conversation with James and Mary Rose, alongside sleep physiologist Motty Varghese. One lucky guest will be in with the chance to win the prize of a Hybrid Organic King Size 5ft mattress, worth €1,400. There will also be prizes from Natural Sleep’s new Organic Accessories and 10 per cent off all Organic Mattresses in store. Guests will have the opportunity to talk to the team throughout the day about buying a new mattress, which can often be overwhelming – unfamiliar vocabulary and specialist terminology often adds to the confusion. On the day, bring queries and your curiosity and get ready for a more natural way to sleep better. To be in with a chance to win, register for the in-store draw here: www.eventbrite.ie.

CELEBRATE: The launch of new Irish brand STÓR, founded by Aimee Hart, a considered edit of pieces for the home, bringing together natural wool, fine cashmere, hand-finished ceramics and layered fragrance. These pieces are designed not simply to be admired, but to become part of everyday life and to last well beyond a season. The signature Vetivert & Moss candle, €75, is available from www.storatelier.com.

SHOP: You’ve read about it, now see it in the flesh – designer Sarah Plunkett-Chadwick’s new label, The Mna, is hosting a pop-up at Chupi, on Dublin’s Clarendon Street, from October 15-18. Its USP is for strong women and is described as a “refined rebellion”. Translated that means plenty of black velvet Gothic-style mini and maxi dresses, divine snakeskin skirts and jackets and funky slogan T-shirts which add a rock ’n roll edge to everyday dressing. www.the-mna.com

SPA: Award season is in full swing and Eden Elements at Eden One has been crowned Ireland’s Best Day Spa at the Annual World Spa Awards. Time to revisit this luxurious haunt spanning two floors with an extensive thermal suite complemented by eleven serene treatment rooms offering indulgent Natura Bissé and Ground Wellbeing rituals. Spa guests who book a package can also enjoy complimentary access to the Member’s Lounge, featuring a newly refreshed, Japanese-inspired menu rich in seasonal, lean, and nutrient-dense options. www.edenone.ie

BOOK: Posh trains are trending; one to book is the very special Emerald Pullman heritage train, otherwise known as the Wexford Festival Opera Train for a black-tie dinner from Dublin to Wexford on October 22. On arrival, guests will be whisked to the National Opera House in plenty of time for the 7:30pm performance of Sergei Prokofiev’s The Gambler, one of the three main stage productions of Wexford Festival Opera’s 75th anniversary season. Following the performance, guests are taken back to the train for the journey to Dublin, with supper served on board, arriving at Connolly Station shortly after 1am. www.railtoursireland.com
