1 Skincare we trust
Clarins Double Serum is one of the true reliables in your beauty arsenal. We know many no-nonsense women who don’t want to faff with their skincare and only use sure things – tried and trusted essentials that work. And Double Serum is one of those, with its dual hydric plus lipidic serum. Clarins keep looking at even their best products, seeking to improve whenever possible, and interestingly, a clinical study was carried out on female twins, as a way of comparing skin signs such as lines, radiance and pores. The upgraded formula features five new pure active molecules, alongside the existing 22 powerful plant ingredients. The serum continues to target the five vital functions of the skin: regeneration, oxygenation, nutrition, hydration and protection. Revitalising and skin-firming, this is the bottle we want by our side.
New Clarins Double Serum is exclusive to the Clarins Boutique & Spa, Wicklow Street, Dublin 2, and online at www.Clarins.ie. Available nationwide from August 23. From €76 (30ml).
2 The creme de la creme of concealers
French skincare brand Biologique Recherche – one of the few brands that can justifiably be given the label “cult”, since it’s a word-of-mouth, insider’s favourite – has just launched a super-luxe concealer that packs in all the skincare benefits of its high-tech skincare. Their Eye Care Concealer Anti-fatique tinted treatment, in three shades, is a beauty. Two to three dots on the eye contour, tapped in with a finger or brush to blend, work wonders when you’re looking tired and world-weary. Treating your skin as it brightens are lots of fancy extracts, including jasmine flower. From €67, at stockists nationwide; www.biologique-recherche.com.
3 New limited-edition beauty comes to town
Find Fenty Beauty newly arrived at Brown Thomas Dundrum and online, including the new limited-edition Bronze All Ova collection which is exclusive in Ireland to Brown Thomas. Fenty Skin is also in store. Though the marketing is always for a young audience, this range is not just for 20-somethings: I’ve always loved the Gloss Bomb Lip Luminizers, and the Gloss Bomb Oils (€24) are really juicy and hydrating for all ages (very forgiving on lined lips) and with a delicious vanilla/caramel taste. I recommend the Coppa Cookie one, with a hint of mocha, as it’s lovely with warmer skin. Also in this Bronze collection are peachy shades of Hot Cheeks (€31), a mix of blush and highlighter in one, though they’re a little too sparkly and heavy for my skin; I feel the cream blush works better. The Glitty Lid shimmer liquid eyeliners (€22) in a bronze and a rose shade are really pretty, and have seriously good staying power – we’re talking 24 hours plus. You’ll need a steady hand to apply them. By the way, the Sarah Keary Longwear Eyeshadows (currently €11.45 online) have a similar metallic finish, with a wider (less precise) applicator.
The Fenty Beauty range is wide and all-encompassing, with a properly inclusive range of shades available. At Brown Thomas Dundrum and online at www.brownthomas.com.
4 Eco-conscious beauty
Et al is an eco-conscious, vegan range of make-up with some neat refillable compacts for complexion and also for eyes (€45 for compact and refill; empty compact case €18.50). Check out the brush set, too. At www.monicatolan.com.
5 Just one thing that works…
As the Olympics continue to dazzle in Paris, and we all remain hooked on watching obscure sports, we love French brand Buly’s take on the whole thing: Eau Gymnastique, a super-chic shoe spray to perfume your trainers! This is clearly very extra – some bicarb and some peppermint essential oil would probably do the trick if you have ancient gym shoes you want to revive. But Buly’s packaging and quirky, fun approach to fragrance is out on its own. €71.75 at www.buly.com.
6 Game of Soaps
And finally, a fun item that makes a cute gift. Chanel’s limited edition Les Dés de Chance Eau Fraîche soap collection also offers a playful take on fragrance. Four scented mini soaps (4 x 40g), in the Chance signature lemon and jasmine, are travel-friendly. €85, at counters nationwide and www.chanel.com.
