A few of our favourite flavours, from Mediterranean and Italian to Mexican and Chinese … and even space!
Six by Nico, Molesworth Street
The restaurant with an affinitity for creating new tasting menus every six weeks has just launched its cosmic culinary experience. For an extended twelve week run, Six by Nico’s new concept is SPACE – an out of world adventure. Chef Nico Simeone and his team designed the menu with each dish reflecting a different stage of the cosmos, featuring the Zero Gravity Oyster, Black Hole (with fregola sarda, cuttlefish, burnt lemona and bisque), Solar Flare (flat iron steak and ox parcel) and Goodbye Earth (baked vanilla custard layered with orange marmalade and Grand Marnier). Beam up and enjoy the voyage.
Lena, Portobello
From the team behind two of the most popular restaurants in Dublin, Uno Mas and Etto, we all knew that Lena in Portobello (formerly of Locks fame) was going to be a success, but this neighbourhood Italian restaurant has exceeded all expectations. From the unique setting on the canal and spacious seating for a central location to its buzzy atmosphere and excellent service, it lives up to the hype. The menu is exceptional and the well curated wine list by the glass if so diverse that you’re guaranteed to find something you like. If you’re a fan of small plates with big flavours, it’s worth a visit.
Hera, Drumcondra
Recently voted the Best Gastropub in Dublin only six months into its journey, Hera is a must-visit if you’re looking for Mediterranean bites and cool vibes. Dishes that stand out include Carlingford oysters, heirloom tomato carpaccio, fresh ricotta and courgette lasagna, or smoked pork and achovy ragu bianco and house-made gnocchi, plus for dessert a brown butter and miso tart to top it all off!
Variety Jones, The Liberties
This family-owned, Michelin-starred restaurant recently opened a new location on Thomas Street. With an emphasis on chef’s choice sharing menus, the sample menu includes osyters with Vietnamese dressing, duck liver parfait, their famous spaghetti alfredo, barbecue monkfish and a cherry baked Alaska. They take their wine seriously too, so don’t shy away from asking for recommendations.
Picado, South Richmond Street
Husband and wife duo Lily and Alan Ramirez-Foran opened a second Picado this year, serving authentic Mexican delicacies. The team also hosts weekly cooking classes and monthly supper clubs with different themes.
China Tang, Monkstown
For a modern Cantonese twist, this new restaurant in Monkstown treats food like a ceremony. The signature roasted Peking duck is special (pre-order is required), as are the braised Hereford beef short ribs. In the mood for dim sum? Try the platter that gives you a taste of the best dumplings on the menu.
