6 Cool and Refreshing Drinks To Stave Off The Heat

Quench your thirst with Ciara McQuillan’s selection of iced coffees and frozen drinks …

It’s officially iced coffee season! The heatwave may have passed but the weather is still warm(ish) and balmy (Irish style) and that’s enough of an excuse for us to indulge in our iced coffee addiction. Here’s where to head for iced coffee or cool refreshing drinks in general when the planets align and the sun breaks through.

Bibi’s Café, Emorville Avenue, D8.

Bibi’s is famous in certain circles for their legendary brunch dishes (squash eggs, we are looking at you) and their famous cakes, so we can’t imagine that their iced coffee offering would be any less than perfect. The salted caramel iced latté looks simply decadent and coffee is from Cloud Picker so you know it will deliver. With a second branch in Dun Laoghaire now open, the Bibi’s love is sure to spread. Do yourself a favour and pick up some brownies (peanut butter) or lemon squares while you are there. You won’t be sorry! www.bibis.ie.

Two Boys Brew, Phibsborough.

Another great lunch or brunch spot, Two Boys Brew have pushed the boundaries when it comes to iced coffee. This summer’s tipple has to be the pink grapefruit espresso tonic, the perfect mix of pink grapefruit, tonic water with a double shot of the house espresso. If you prefer, keep it simple with an iced Americano or latté. Coffee is from Root and Branch and do not skip the hotcakes or the peanut butter chocolate cookie sandwich. www.twoboysbrew.ie.

Baa Baa by Blacksheep foods, Chapelizod.

If there is a cuter coffee shop in Dublin, we have yet to find it and with its proximity to The Phoenix Park and the Liffey, Baa Baa is perfectly positioned for a summer stroll, iced coffee in hand. Baa Baa have a selection of iced coffees and there is homemade lemonade too. If your walk builds an appetite, the sausage rolls are top notch and the cakes are almost too pretty to eat. Almost. www.blacksheepfoods.ie.

Vice Coffee Inc., Middle Abbey Street and Baste, Portobello.

The people at Vice Coffee know a thing or two about, well, coffee. Their Irish coffee concoction is legendary and their malted hot chocolate has sustained us through many a winters’ day but now, its iced coffee time. Keep it simple with a cold brew or push the boat out with something more decadent, it’s up to you! www.vicecoffeeinc.com.

Eatyard.

Three simple words that were meant for each other. Baileys. Iced. Coffee. If coffee was ever to have a soul mate, Baileys would be the Juliet to its Romeo. A marriage made in heaven and when chilled and poured over ice, the result is a summer sip that is as luxurious as it gets. Eatyard has an abundance of food and drink options every weekend from Thursday to Sunday, but for a canal side stroll in the sun, this has to be a strong contender for the perfect accompaniment. You will also find a selection of excellent iced coffees from 3fe so the choices are endless. For the coffee adverse, the passionfruit lime cooler is the way to go. www.the-eatyard.com.

Chimac.

Terenure residents are all just a little smug at the moment and it’s completely understandable with the news that KFC (Korean fried chicken) moguls, Chimac are setting up shop right in the village. You know what that means – Buckfast slushies, frosé and those ice cream sandwiches.  Oh, and Korean fried chicken of course. www.chimac.ie.
