Make room for these set menus worth booking in for, at La Maison, Hawksmoor, The Saddle Room and more …

La Maison, Dublin 2
I have long been a fan of La Maison and the exceptional value of the pre-theatre offering makes it even easier to love it. Running Monday to Friday and on Sunday from 5pm – 6:15pm, it will set you back €34 for two courses or €41 for three. There is an €8 supplement for a John Stone steak and a €3 supplement for a plate of French cheese, all of which I would happily spend for food of this calibre. Plus, La Maison is probably one of the most atmospheric of Dublin restaurants. A starter, steak and a cheeseboard for €45? I’m in. www.lamaisondublin.com.

Twin Oaks, Castleknock
Apart from a couple of exceptions, the Dublin 15 area is not particularly well served with memorable restaurants, so when a new establishment opens its doors, expectations can be high. But what better way to endear yourself to the locals than by offering a neighbourhood dining experience that includes three courses and a glass of house wine for a remarkable €30? The ‘Residence’ menu runs all night on Wednesdays and Thursdays and on Fridays from 5pm – 7pm. Even with the steak supplement of €10, it offers fantastic value for money. www.twinoaks.ie.

Hawksmoor, Dublin 2
The buzz around the Dublin outpost of Hawkmoor shows no sign of fizzling out and honestly, there is a lot to love about it. The Sunday roast has proven exceedingly popular, as has the BYOB wine club, and last but not least, the express menu. While there is no disputing Hawksmoor is a high end dining experience, the option of choosing the express menu or having Sunday lunch for less than €30 makes dining at Hawksmoor accessible to all. At €29 for two courses, (€33 for three), the menu offers a choice of three starters, one meat, one fish, one vegetarian and the mains follow the same formula, although there is a €6 supplement for the beef. Go on a Monday to take advantage of €5 corkage and you have yourself a proper bargain. www.hawksmoor.ie.

The Saddle Room at The Shelbourne, Dublin 2
With consistently great reviews, The Saddle Room is a special dining experience in one of Dublin’s most beloved hospitality institutions. While dinner might set you back a pretty penny, the pre-theatre menu, served from 5.50pm – 6.30pm offers excellent value for such an experience. Priced at €40 for two courses and €47 for three, the menu is concise, as pre-theatre menus tend to be. Make sure to order salted chocolate tart to finish off your meal. www.theshelbourne.com.

China Sichuan, Sandyford
In Sandyford, China Sichuan recently launched its two course express menu and I, for one, cannot wait to try it. Priced at €25 for two courses, the menu is available from 12pm – 2pm, Wednesday – Friday and if there is a better way to start the weekend than by having lunch on Friday in China Sichuan, I have yet to discover it. For me, it would have to be the Bon Bon Chicken followed by the Dan Dan Mian, poached noodles and beansprouts, served in a spicy sauce, topped with ground pork and crushed cashews. If you prefer to be mildly sensible and stick with two course, that will set you back just €18.50. www.chine-sichuan.ie.
