5 Facial SPFs That Are Easy To Wear

Including recommendations from our GLOSSiest independent beauty panellists …

Don’t swerve the sunscreen. That is what every dermatologist in every country in the world will tell you. You’re wasting your money if you’re buying skincare, from pricey serums to moisturisers, but not protecting your skin on a daily basis with SPF. Read about the importance of wearing SPF every day here.

When it comes to sunscreen, SPF50+ offers the highest protection, if you are spending the day in the sun, or go outside at midday, this is what you need to be wearing.

If you’re still not sure where your SPF fits in your daily skin routine, it’s the last step – ie after moisturiser. If wearing make-up, apply it before your foundation. And even if your foundation has an SPF in it, it’s much better to wear a separate SPF for proper protection.

Here are five facial SPFs that are easy to wear:

1 Image Skincare Prevention+ Sun Serum SPF30 Tinted is an innovative formula of 100 per cent mineral UV filters, plus soft tint. The hydrating serum texture makes it light and easy to apply, and it’s non-comedogenic. €64, at www.imageskincare.ie.

2 Lancaster Sun Beauty Sublime Tan SPF50. With more than 70 years’ expertise in suncare – it was Princess Grace of Monaco’s preferred brand – Lancaster accept you’re going to be in the sun, but want you to do it smartly, so offer protection from all four UV sun spectrums (UVA and UVB, while being the most dangerous, represent only 10 per cent), plus a sun repair system. We see a lot about blue light protection now – but do bear in mind that 34 days of blue light exposure is equal to just one day in the sun, according to the experts at Lancaster. At pharmacies nationwide and www.next.ie.

3 La Roche Posay Anthelios Invisible Fresh Face Mist SPF50 [€17.25, at pharmacies and online] is a quick and handy spray mist for top-ups – keep one in your bag, car, pocket …

4 “I use Elta MD Skincare UV Clear Broad Spectrum SPF46 [€58, www.instituteofdermatologists.ie] – and after years of trial and error with gloopy (and eye-stinging) suncreams, this is the winner. It spreads well so a bottle goes a long way and it works brilliantly under make-up with no residue or piling. While €58 isn’t pocket change, I’ve found that years of religiously using SPF means I need fewer tweakments so it’s a saving of sorts!” Beauty panellist Grace, aged 37.

4 Solero SPF50 Anti-Ageing Face Cream, currently €6 (was €12) at www.lloydspharmacy.ie.

5 CeraVe AM Facial Moisturising Lotion SPF50, €17.50 at pharmacies nationwide and online.
