Finding ways to help from home …
Adam’s, in conjunction with Suzanne MacDougald, is hosting an online auction of artworks to aid the Irish Red Cross’s humanitarian work in delivering vital services to millions of people impacted by the conflict in Ukraine. The catalogue, composed of artworks donated by art collectors and artists such as Martin Mooney, Markey Robinson, John Behan, Rowan Gillespie, Peter Curling and Orla de Brí is online, and will close for bidding on Thursday, April 7 at 2pm. There are no reserves, no buyer’s premium and bidding will open for each lot at 50 per cent of the low estimate. One of the poignant works offered in the auction is a bronze Duck by Irish-Ukrainian artist Vadim Tuzov (pictured). Tuzov has a considerable following for his realistic small animals and regularly exhibits at Dublin’s Solomon Gallery. This exquisitely patinated model is estimated at €2,000/€3000 (with an opening bid of €1,000). Other works include two lithographs by Elizabeth Magill from her Parlous Lands series – an appropriate if coincidental reference to Ukraine. With over 35 choice lots there’s something to appeal to every taste and budget. If a piece of Louise Kennedy’s couture is more your thing then you’re in luck as a lady’s black beaded crepe evening jacket, size small, is also up for grabs with an estimate of €500/800; www.adams.ie.
Art Auction Ukraine is an online auction by Hambly and Hambly featuring more than 40 works by Irish and Ukrainian artists including Philip Flanagan, Laurence O’Toole, Maria Kulikovska and Eamon Colman (pictured). All proceeds raised from the sale will go directly to the Unicef appeal in aid of Ukrainian refugees. The auction, which is now live, closes Tuesday, April 5. More than 40 artworks have been donated with sale prices starting at considerably lower rates (20 per cent) than their original value. As such the event is an opportunity to purchase Irish and Ukrainian artworks at more accessible prices while supporting a humanitarian cause. To register for the event visit www.hamblyandhambly.com.
Northern Irish florist Shane Connolly is hosting an online demonstration in aid of Ukraine on Wednesday, April 5 at 7pm. It’s only £10stg to register (or more if you can) and Connolly is hoping to reach his target of raising £10,000 for the British Red Cross. A royal warrant holder, Connolly famously did the wedding flowers of Prince William and Catherine Middleton. His passion for flowers began as a child and was honed via work experience at Pulbrook & Gould with Lady Pulbrook and Michael Goulding OBE before setting up business 30 years ago. Connolly is proud to be the trustee of Floral Angels which donates flowers to be used in hospices or women’s refuges. He has written five books, the most recent being Discovering The Meaning of Flowers, Love Found, Love Lost, Love Restored. If you can’t tune into his tutorial, there is a chance to watch the recording later. To register visit www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ukraineshane.
On Sunday, April 10, from 2pm, the Ukrainian Ambassador to Ireland, Larysa Gerasko will officially open “War Paint” an exhibition by Conrad Frankel at The Olivier Cornet Gallery, Great Denmark Street, Dublin 1. Frankel explains his aim for the exhibition: “By making this group of paintings, I hope to show the war to people afresh. Saturated, jaded by online media, I wanted to make paintings of the images we all see and know, and too quickly forget. Images that would resonate deeper by virtue of them being reimagined and abstracted in paint.” 20 per cent of the sales of work from this exhibition will to go to the Irish Red Cross for the relief effort in Ukraine; www.oliviercornetgallery.com.
