Are we done with 1990s nostalgia? Apparently not, according to the high street. Following on from its Carolyn Bessette-inspired spring collection, Massimo Dutti has dropped another 90s edit for autumn. So far, so … overdone?
Indeed, as the seasons progress – and fashion latches onto other, arguably fresher, concepts like the embracing of personal style, maximalism and eclectic dressing – it’s hard to get enthused about a cowl-neck slip dress that’s made from one hundred per cent viscose. (Particularly, if you can remember wearing cowl necks the first time around.)
That being said, there are often gems to be found in a new season Massimo Dutti collection, especially an autumn one. We’re intrigued by the soft leather flat mules which, although a tad monastic, have a direct line to The Row, except with a €120 price tag. Equally, the skullcap hats in wool (you may have spotted different iterations of these all over the high street), are the kind of viral buy that will steer a years-old coat into 2026 territory. If you’re not a fan of C-shape or barrel-leg denim, then the wide-leg jeans, particularly the white ones, may be for you. Equally, the slim-straight denim shapes are nicely nostalgic.
