If you’re struggling through the quagmire that is February dressing, you’re not alone. January, with its disregard for dressing up, seemed far more manageable, speaking in terms of clothes. And, even though the days are gloomy as hell and bitterly cold, February presents us with a daily get-dressed battle as social activities begin to ramp up again.
The message from the street is that, right now, a statement coat is your entire outfit. Whether you go with staple jeans and knits underneath, or a pair of utilitarian cargo trousers, all eyes are on outerwear. Our advice? Choose a coat that does all the talking: faux furs (bonus points if they’re in of-the-moment cow print) strike the right note between luxury and practicality.
Elsewhere, our obsession with athleticism has penetrated our pre-spring looks, with sporty touches becoming de rigueur: nobody bats an eye at tracksuit bottoms teamed with formal daywear. If that seems too much, lean into vivid splashes of colour (reds or yellows for the win) and play with proportion with a cropped trench coat.
On a final note, there is some softness to be found this month, reports the February issue of THE GLOSS: fashion designers have loosened silhouettes and suddenly everything is in frivolous shades of pink, taupe or mocha. As we wait for spring to emerge, these are some style notes that can lift and lighten the sartorial load.Â
