11 New Summer Beauty Launches to Shop in Store Now

If you go down to a Dublin beauty hall today …. Here’s what to make a beeline for …

1 THE ROOM SCENT: Cloon Keen

The Galway perfume maestros opened their Dublin boutique in Powerscourt Townhouse just before lockdown last year. It’s top of our list, just to be in a beautiful fragrant space, and to stock up on their recently launched Spanish Arch room spray (€40), a heavenly blend of neroli and green notes that transforms any room. And they have a new perfume launching on June 1 – trust me when I say that to smell it is worth the trip into town alone (see more in our June issue, out on Thursday June 3). I have a preview sample, and can say with certainty I’ll be wearing it all summer. Hint: if you lean towards cologne-type scents, fresh with bright complexity, this one’s for you. It’s also a good pick for father’s day so plan your visit for June. For now, feast your eyes on the beautiful design and treat yourself to something beautiful such as the candles – they are €40 and absolutely worth it (and we know of many that aren’t). Apart from their incomparable scents, the elegant and solid silvery glass jars make the perfect pen or brush holders once the candle’s finished. I burn Noble Fir all year round – it’s not just for Christmas. 3 Powerscourt Townhouse, Dublin 2; www.cloonkeen.com.

2 THE BODY MOISTURISER: Aveeno Daily Moisturising After-Shower Mist, €7.99

We know it really – body creams do not need to cost the earth. That doesn’t stop us craving the most extravagant ones: for example we are partial to the soft scent of Sisley’s new pale pink Black Rose Beautifying Emulsion (€132 at Brown Thomas) for a treat. It’s undeniably beautiful, and undeniably expensive. And we have a weakness for a pot of Valmont Body 24 Hour (from €95, at Harvey Nichols Dundrum), a pot of velvety luxury with the lightest floral fragrance – it’s divine. But down to earth creams do the actual job on a daily basis. The Body Shop’s longstanding Body Butters are newly repackaged and as reliable as ever (with a good dose of nostalgia thrown in), at around €20. But our current squeeze – or spray, to be exact – is this Aveeno post-shower moisturising mist. It may not be the sexiest looking, but it’s a pharmacy staple that absolutely does what it says on the tube – what you need to know is that it sinks in immediately and the hydrating effect is properly lasting. Hard to believe at this price, but absolutely true. €7.99 at pharmacies nationwide (currently €5.33 at Boots Ireland), www.aveeno.ie.

3 THE TINTED MOISTURISER: Estee Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue Moisturising Make-up SPF45, €42

To be honest, I haven’t used Lauder products for quite some time – there are just too many interesting young brands creating exciting skincare, and I’ve gone from having a shelf monopolised by brands like Clinique to relying on a much wider variety of independents. But I’ve been trying out this Futurist tube recently – essentially a tinted moisturiser – and finding it really good for a quick one-stop skin fix before the novelty of leaving the house to actually go somewhere. Designed as an all-rounder, to moisturise and protect as well as make your skin glow, it’s pretty handy, gives a nice finish and comes in 28 shades. Use sparingly and buff on with a brush. Truth is you really need an additional SPF at this time of year, but this is definitely Zoom-friendly, and superior to lots of other variations on this theme. ALSO: The matching concealer is as trusty as you’d expect from the makers of DoubleWear. At Brown Thomas and Arnotts.

4 THE SKIN OIL: Sunday Riley CEO Glow Facial Oil, from €39

Yes, we want turmeric in our face oil. I am a big fan of Sunday Riley skincare – I like everything I’ve tried from the range, from the Ceramic Slip cleanser to the buttery cleansing balms. New in at Arnotts are some nifty kits, including one containing four Superstars (€130) such as Auto Correct eye cream (the best name, and currently on my desk). I’ve also finished the Pink Drink face mist recently and loved it for refreshing and brightening the skin. And the Ice Ceramide Moisturising Cream (€65) is another favourite – it smells beautifully almondy and the hydration lasts on my skin; in fact I’d recommend the entire range for those over 50. This famed oil, full of antioxidants, doesn’t just look good on your shelf – it feels nourishing and luxurious, like a protein smoothie for the skin. At Arnotts.

5 THE SKIN PROTECTOR: La Roche Posay Hyalu B5 Aquagel SPF30, €34

SPF is not the most exciting part of your routine, but it’s the most important. Otherwise you might as well be painting a room when the roof is leaking. We should be wearing SPF every day now, and this one – hallelujah – helps to make that an easy prospect. It has a really impressive super-light texture that offers an invisible shield and does not feel clogging on the skin. In fact it feels more like a primer than a sun cream; you’d never know you were wearing it. Apply as the final step of your skincare routine. Recyclable packaging. €34 at pharmacies nationwide and online. ALSO: Clarins UV Plus, €39. I’ve mentioned it before, and am still using it (in Translucent or Rose). It’s light and feels good on the skin. The small tube is perfect for on the go.

6 THE BRONZER: Chanel Soleil Tan, €44

Launched last year, this bronzer is an ideal way to achieve a natural-looking healthy glow – to my mind, the Les Beiges line masters this idea better than anyone. Just buff and go. For darker skin tones, wait until June 4 to snap up the new Deep Bronze shade, which launches as part of this year’s Les Beiges collection. The trouble with visiting the counter is that you’ll also see the glam foil-alike nail colours called things like Sunlight and Golden Sand (€27), and they are hard to resist. Oh and smell Le Lion de Chanel perfume, in the Les Exclusifs range, while you’re there – it is sensational. At Chanel counters nationwide.

7 THE HAIR RESCUE: Seoulista Glossy Locks Hair Mask, €12

I know many people have already had their first hair appointments, but if you’re still in the queue, here’s something to keep you going: a €12 hair mask that works in 15 minutes (there is 35ml of serum in each treatment). Like other Seoulista products it’s created in Korea, and is designed to be very easy to use. Leave it on overnight if your hair is very wrecked. Available at pharmacies nationwide and www.seoulistabeauty.com. ALSO: I’m using the Kerastase Blond Absolu range, which has been extended this year – the purple shampoo and conditioner are a great find for grey and silver hair, helping to keep it bright and reducing dryness. At salons nationwide, from €25.

8 THE HAND CREAM: Aesop Resurrection Aromatique Hand Balm, from €25

I’ve been watching @DOPL.Dublin on Instagram – it looks like an intriguing and stylish store, opened last year on Wicklow Street. And they stock Aesop’s beautiful skincare and home products (as do Samui Cork). Their tubes of hand cream are hard to beat and make great gifts. We’ll also be visiting the Boy Smells candles to see if they smell as good as they sound. The website isn’t up and running yet so it’s a good excuse to get into town. You’ll also find lots of shoes by beyond-fashion brands like Ann Demeulemeester. Dopl, 36 Wicklow Street, Dublin 2.

9 THE CANDLE: The Handmade Soap Company candles, €17.95

Head to the Handmade Soap Company’s pop-up shop in Wicklow Street to stock up on lovely natural Irish-made soaps and shower gels, plus candles. Most of their natural soy candles are €17.95 – great value. The newer Anam candle (€35, and worth it) is at Brown Thomas. Pop-up Shop, Wicklow Street, Dublin 2; www.thehandmadesoapcompany.ie.

10 THE PERFUME: James Heeley L’Amandière, €130

UK perfumer James Heeley has quite the cult following and this almond-centred scent sounds utterly beautiful – notes include hyacinth, bluebell, rose and mint. I can’t wait to visit Dublin’s perfume boutique and smell it. Parfumarija, Westbury Mall, Dublin 2; www.parfumarija.com.

11 THE SERUM: VOTARY

If you’re passing SpaceNK, stop in for Votary – I’ve raved about their Brightening Hyaluronic Serum (€97) with narcissus and AHA before, and continue to use it and marvel at its very beautiful springlike scent, and glow-inducing properties. The pillowy soft pink Overnight Mask is a dream too, and the range is entirely vegan and cruelty-free. Check out the Diptyque (refillable) solid perfumes while you’re there – so cute. Grafton Street, Dublin 2 and www.spacenk.com.
