What’s On My Beauty Shelf: Karen Kearney, Founder Of Soak In Wellness

The Sligo-based founder of an independent Irish wellbeing brand shares the beauty essentials that give her a daily boost

Key beauty staples I’m never without …

Soak Bedtime Bliss Face & Body Serum is my nightly essential. It’s part of my bedtime ritual, and people often comment on how glowing my skin looks. I use it as a serum on my face, all over my body after a shower and before bed to ensure the best night’s sleep. It’s my perfect travel companion, too, as it doubles up as a cleansing oil. In the morning, I switch to Joy Connects Serum: the lime uplifts my mood, while sage brings balance. Both are blended with seven botanical oils infused with Irish seaweed to deeply restore the skin.

Also, SPF is a must for me. I use SeventyOne’s Sunkissed SPF30. It’s one of the few ocean-safe brands I’ve found, and I love that the stick format can go into my handbag for on-the-go sun protection. It’s natural and doesn’t feel heavy on the skin, so it’s perfect under make-up and over my serums.

I also love Sadie’s Secrets At-Home Eyebrow Tint for brows as it enhances my natural beauty and means I no longer need regular salon tints; €30 at Avoca stores and online.

Best beauty investments – what I spend a bit more on that’s worth it …

Valmont’s Moisturising 24H Hydration Cream – my skin adores it. It layers beautifully over Soak serums, giving hydration and a glow that lasts; €193.

Most recent purchase … I love supporting and buying Irish brands when I can. We are spoiled here with the high quality we offer. One recent purchase is the Skin Veg Hyaluronic Hydrating Serum by Skingredients; €55. It’s very hydrating, like a sheet mask in a bottle. I was also given a Sásta Microbiome Booster Serum at the Irish Made Awards (where Soak won Highly Commended for a second time) and I love it.

Favourite places to shop for beauty …

I like to buy directly from a brand’s website as you get that personal touch – and it feels good knowing my money is supporting the team and their growth. I’m a huge advocate of buying Irish wherever possible, supporting local wellness and beauty brands. When I do shop further afield, I look for products that are natural, sustainable and ocean-safe.

All-time favourite beauty item

Apart from Soak products, the Anam Cosmetics eyeshadow set is a favourite; €40. These sparkling vegan eyeshadows are cruelty-free, biodegradable and high quality, adding just the right amount of sparkle. They are so much fun to wear, and I always get compliments wearing them. Most of all, I love the joy they bring.

I’m coveting …

I love keeping things minimal, so when I do add it has to be something special that aligns with my ethos of clean, sustainable beauty.

The loveliest perfume bottle on my dressing table …

Hermès Eau des Merveilles Bleue Eau de Toilette is my signature scent – I adore it; from €77. It brings me joy and confidence, and I always get compliments when I wear it.

My home fragrance …

I keep it simple and all natural. Unlike most candles, Soak premium essential oil candles are 100 per cent natural, made with no fragrance or perfumes. They’re handcrafted in Sligo, with our wild herbs and pure aromatherapy oil. At the moment, I’m using the Breathe Deep candle with orange, mint and eucalyptus as it helps me slow down, focus on my breath and release any stress I might be holding.

One foundation I swear by …

Finding vegan, cruelty-free make-up made in Ireland can be a challenge. At the moment, I love Sculpted by Aimee’s Hydratint. It complements my glowing skin and gives a very natural finish, which is exactly what I look for.

My beauty ethos …

Love yourself every single day: life is too short and too precious not to. For me, beauty is about wellbeing – when we feel good about ourselves, we glow from the inside out. My own routine includes mindfulness every morning, a Bedtime Bliss Atlantic sea bath for deep restorative sleep, and to nourish from within I take Revive Active MasterMind with Omega 3 from algae, not fish. Looking after my mental health is an essential, too. Confidence shines!
