This Raffia Bag Trend Is Going To Be Huge For Summer

Basket bags are always big news for summer and this upgrade feels fresh …

It’s not summer unless we’ve added a new basket bag to our wardrobe rotation (see the classic styles we love here). Since we’ve always got our eyes peeled for a great new raffia or woven carry-all to love, we’ve noticed a trend for more relaxed styles coming to the fore. Ditching the structured micro totes and crossbodies that have been popular the last while, this new shape is akin to the hobo-style shoulder bags we’ve seen popularised lately that nod to the 1990s and 2000s – they’re unstructured, sculptural and come in a crescent shape. See Khaite’s new Lotus raffia bag, which was designed to fall, just-so, and mimic the draping of a scarf. Styles come as high drama as you wish, from small additions that carry just the essentials such as keys, wallet, phone and lipstick at H&M and Arket, to XL iterations, such as the oversized raffia bag worn by style influencer Lisa Pintaud, pictured above, also by Khaite – the New York brand is leading the charge when it comes to this look, expect imitations to crop up left, right and centre as the summer progresses.
