Sun, Sand And SPF: THE GLOSS Team Share Their Travel Essentials

THE GLOSS team reveal their dream holiday destinations this summer, and what they’ll be reading, eating and taking with them – including the one true essential, a facial SPF …

When you’re travelling, whether for a sun holiday or a city weekend away, you need a reliable SPF to take with you. And Image Skincare’s Daily Prevention™ suncare line features six innovative high-protection SPFs to suit all our sunscreen needs every single day, from colour-correcting mineral high protection to mattifying SPFs and a hydrating mist SPF30 for top-ups on the go. The range offers daily dual defense, with hydration and vital sun protection in one, for healthier and more radiant skin.

Daily Prevention™ Ultra Defense Moisturiser SPF50, €63.50. This hydra-silk sunscreen seamlessly blends to an airweight finish on the skin. Its fast-absorbing, ultra-comfortable formula makes it perfect for daily wear, outdoor activities and the demands of an active lifestyle.

Daily Prevention™ Sheer Matte Moisturiser SPF30, €63.50. The silky formula smoothes skin’s appearance and helps control unwanted shine throughout the day with a satin-matte finish. The neutral, blendable tint helps minimise white cast on all skin tones.

Daily Prevention™ Advanced Smart Blend Mineral Moisturiser SPF50, €85.50. Offers colour-correcting coverage that effortlessly adapts to all skin tones. This premium formula offers Image’s highest level of sun protection, and is also specifically designed to be gentle on sensitive skin. Perfect for post-cosmetic procedures such as peels and laser treatments.

The SPF Image Daily Prevention™ Pure Mineral Tinted Moisturiser SPF30, €63.50. The sheer tinted mineral sunscreen formula offers light and natural daily coverage, ideal for daily use.

Image Daily Prevention™ Pure Mineral Hydrating Moisturiser SPF30, €63.50. Enriched with a nurturing blend of moisture-locking hyaluronic acid and sugarcane-derived squalane for unparalleled hydration, leaving behind a barely-there finish.

Image Daily Prevention™ Protect and Refresh Mist SPF30, €53.50. An easy-to-use refreshing mist for the face and neck that can be used over make-up throughout the day or by itself.

Three GLOSS team members share their dream holiday destinations and how they’ll be packing …

Dream destination … I’m heading to Biarritz for a few days and can’t wait to swim in the sea and revisit its fabulous food market, Mercado Les Halles – I’ll bring back strings of garlic.

Eating/staying/lounging … In a dream world, I’d stay at the Hôtel du Palais, a seriously grande dame of a hotel that was a favourite of luminaries such as Gabrielle Chanel and Ernest Hemingway. Their breakfast, held in the La Rotonde dining room, with its curved sweep of floor to ceiling windows overlooking the bay, is one of the most glamorous experiences anywhere in the world, with pastries to die for. But a coffee at the local market is a more down to earth treat.

Book I’m packing … I’ve just read Kairo by Jenny Erpenbeck, which won this year’s International Booker Prize; it’s beautifully written, with a fascinating historical setting of East Berlin, though I found the central relationship relentless and depressing. I’ll take The Garden Against Time by Olivia Laing, as I love her writing.

Lip colour I’ll be wearing … I’m longing to try Lisa Eldridge’s new Baume Embrace Melting Lip Colours (at Space NK, Dundrum Town Centre). Until then, I’m wearing her glosses, and Tatcha’s moisturising Lip Tint in raspberry.

Summer dress I’ll be wearing … I’m more of a winter dresser, but have some ancient Ghost ones bought in sample sales 20 years ago that still do the job. Zadig & Voltaire (in the sale at Brown Thomas, and at Kildare Village) do a mean summer dress that’s light and tiny to pack.

My travel essentials … I wish the Dyson headphones didn’t look quite so silly, as they do block out all sound on the plane, as well as delivering fresh air – a godsend on a packed plane. But they are bulky to carry around, with no handle/strap. Books are my essential – I’m always happy to lug them around.

The bag I’m packing it all into … I’m strictly hand luggage only – I’ve learned the hard way that taking too much involves unnecessary effort. I aspire to the Patti Smith way of packing – entirely minimal – though don’t always succeed. I have a squashable striped bag that gets through budget hand-luggage restrictions.

The SPF … Image Daily Prevention™ Pure Mineral Tinted Moisturiser SPF30, €63.50. This has a super-light texture and glides onto skin, leaving a healthy-looking tint that really works for every day; you don’t know you’re wearing it.

Dream destination … Port d’Andratx, Mallorca.

Eating/staying/lounging … The port has some tiny beaches where the locals swim – these are the best. Or hire a small motor boat (licence not needed) for four hours and spend the day anchored beneath the enormous cliffs. Neighbouring resorts Camp de Mar and Sant Elm have larger sandy beaches with sun beds.

Book I’m packing … Good Material by Dolly Alderton.

Lip colour I’ll be wearing … I’m going practical with Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream, €28, at Boots.

Summer dress I’ll be wearing … Rae Feather’s Jottie cotton dress, €227.95;

My travel essentials … My non-negotiables are my Apple Airpods for listening to podcasts when I can’t sleep, plus my own feather pillow from home.

The bag I’m packing it all into … A Samsonite cabin bag bought at Kildare Village, plus Cos basket bag for the beach.

The SPF … Image Daily Prevention™ Pure Mineral Hydrating Moisturiser SPF30, €63.50. This SPF feels light and moisturising on the skin and is entirely invisible; there’s a confidence in feeling that my skin is protected and hydrated throughout the day.

Dream destination … St Tropez. I’ve been going for over 20 years and recommend staying outside of the little port in one of the surrounding villages such as Gassin, Ramatuelle or Croix Valmer.

Eating/staying/lounging … The Philippe Starck-designed Lily of the Valley hotel, overlooking the Plage de Gigaro, miles of wild, sandy beach. The hotel delivers all the glitz of St Tropez minus the crowds, as well as innovative wellness facilities. Café de L’Ormeau in Ramatuelle, and Bello Visto in Gassin for their authentic charm and excellent grand crèmes. On market days in St Tropez, a must-do is Café Senequier for its port side view. The unassuming but utterly lovely Les Graniers, where you can dine with the sand between your toes.

Book I’m packing … Kate Atkinson’s Death at The Sign of the Rook, out in August – it’s her sixth Jackson Brodie mystery set in a grand country house. You don’t have to have read the others to enjoy Aktinson’s books.

Summer dress I’ll be wearing … One of my best investments was a black Me+Em midi dress which works as a beach cover-up, and can be dressed up for evenings. Each season there’s a new iteration of the style.

My travel essentials … Sheets masks from 111Skin for an instant pick-me-up, a cashmere pashmina, lots of books and several pairs of sunglasses as I invariably lose them. I find M&S a great place to source cheap yet on-trend frames from as little as €15. I also have a wide-brim, foldable Tinsley hat by Janessa Leone, from Electra, Dublin 4, for added sun protection. I pack a few small perfumes, including Ortigia’s Ambra Nera and Diptyque’s L’Ombre dans L’eau in solid perfume form.

The bag I’m packing it all into … My trusty taupe Antler Icon Stripe cabin bag.

The SPF … Image Daily Prevention™ Protect and Refresh Mist SPF30, €53.50. It’s a great multitasker as it hydrates and protects at the same time and is very refreshing. Spray onto hands and then pat on the skin. It doesn’t feel too wet or sticky; the bonus is that it’s water-resistant too.

IMAGE Skincare’s Daily Prevention™ line is available on and at professional spas, salons and clinics nationwide. A full list of Image stockists and clinics can be found here:
