Blackrock is rapidly becoming a bit of a beauty mecca; while it’s always had plenty of hair salons, barbers and nail bars, now the top floor of the newly renovated Frascati Centre is designating itself as a beauty/wellness destination, with the team behind Brown Sugar opening Sugar Daddy barbers and Sugar Coated, their first beauty salon, offering nails, lash and brow treatments and tanning (by Bellamianta and St Tropez). A gym and yoga studio are set to follow.
The shopping centre itself has rather a feel of an airport, with too much empty space and disappointingly generic cafés. But Sugar Coated certainly makes the place more glamorous, with its comfy pedicure seats and manicure stations (from €15 for file and polish) – and complimentary drinks included with all services, including Gunpowder gin, to make the whole beautifying experience even more relaxing. I tried the Sugared Manicure (€40), which includes a gentle and fragrant sugar-based exfoliating treatment for hands as well as an expert buff and polish. They use OPI polishes, which nail technician Amy praises as lasting really well with their inbuilt base coat, and also Fedua, a luxury formaldehyde-free Italian brand of gel polishes. From HD brows to lash extensions, lash and brow tints and spray tanning from €20, Sugar Coated has all your beauty requirements covered.
