Why You Should Revisit Green Angel

Our beauty buy of the week is Irish, organic and costs less than €30: GREEN ANGEL skincare from Irish coastal waters …

Seaweed has always been one of our finest beauty resources, and several Irish brands utilise its benefits for skin, from Voya to Seavite by the Drs Mulrooney (the Super Nutrient Face Cream is as good as any prestige-brand moisturiser). As a sea swimmer I’m very partial to seaweed and will happily sit in a bath full of it, outside in the rain if necessary (preferably at the Cliff House in Ardmore). But being honest, Green Angel hasn’t been on my radar for a while – I remember using the Sunrise Smoother years ago, but the packaging was fairly basic and it was all looking a bit pharmacy remainder for a while there. But a sleek new look made us give it another try.

The Sunrise Magic Seaweed Body Smoother with organic argan oil is less than €30 and it is absolutely divine. Seriously – I haven’t been so pleasantly surprised by a beauty product in ages, and actually looked forward to a morning shower to use it – so many of these body scrubs are astronomical, and this is a HUGE pot (400g) that will last for ages. Read the ingredients and you want to dive into it instantly – organic Irish seaweeds, Irish Atlantic sea salt, organic argan and grapeseed oils and essential oils of grapefruit and lemon. It gently exfoliates, smoothes skin and stimulates circulation and leaves skin really silky without being greasy – I hate body oils that just sit on the surface and go all over your clothes or towels.

This year the company has had a new focus on sourcing organic ingredients, though it has been all-natural since starting out in 2005. I’ve yet to try out the body oil, with organic geranium and neroli along with seaweed and argan, but it sounds absolutely gorgeous, and again good value at €22.95. My only proviso with the Smoother is actually getting the pot open and closed, as the lid is so large, especially when you have oil on your hands, but that might just be my impatience. Compared to some of other favourites, such as Fresh’s Brown Sugar Body Polish (absolutely gorgeous but €70 for 400g), and Elemis Lime & Ginger Salt Glow Exfoliator (€50 for 490g at Debenhams), it is really good value, as well as being sourced and handmade here in Ireland, certified organic and environmentally kind. So we’re delighted to love it so much and recommend it heartily – treat it as an essential motivational bonus for your body as you approach the chaos of the season.

Available from the Kilkenny Shop, Avoca, Shaws, Meadows & Byrne and leading pharmacies nationwide, and online at www.greenangel.com.
