Why We’re Planning Decadent Sleepovers this Winter

2 MIN READ SAVE

Sleepovers are the way to party this winter. Forget nightclubbing: we’re aspiring to pyjama parties, like Kate Moss and friends on the Belmond Orient Express for a mate’s 50th, and designer Emilia Wickstead’s slumber party at Claridges to launch her nightwear collection. A sleepover with friends allows leisurely catch-up time, endless conversations into the night over cocktails or cups of tea, plus a shared morning-after – all you need is some decent pjs. Upgrade your ancient Mickey Mouse T-shirt and consider a set of handprinted Moon+Mellow pyjamas in organic cotton, or striped silk by Jessica Russell-Flint. You’ll find they’re coolly comfortable as well as good-looking – you’ll never want to get dressed.

We’ve all become obsessed with how much sleep we’re getting (or not getting). Increasingly mindful of the detrimental effects of a poor night’s sleep, we’re spritzing our pillows with lavender, avoiding late coffees and banning screens from the bedroom. And all the sleep accoutrements make elegant and thoughtful Christmas presents – a pair of Toast pyjamas, or a silk pillowcase, are long-lasting luxuries you might never buy yourself but will use for ever. If you’re going all-out, style editor Aislinn Coffey recommends Susan Hunter for the best silk pyjamas – fancy enough for daytime, too. Create your own sleep set, with an eye mask, bath salts, perhaps a journal. A ticket for the Belmond Orient Express would be the icing on the cake. A girl can dream ….
