The humble hat has had a luxurious reboot this season, says style editor AISLINN COFFEY …
We spotted beautiful oversized bucket hats at Christian Dior (Maria Grazia Chiuri added netted veils) and Valentino (XL sculptural lace versions). Whimsy, pattern, playfulness, it’s all there this season. Usually synonymous with summertime or the races, it seems that all fashion houses are vying for cult hat-status this season producing great renditions that shoppers won’t be able to get enough of. Finding a hat that suits you is no easy feat, there are a multitude of different shapes and ways to wear them. Try them on and play around. “Hair should complement the hat. Hats nearly always look better worn with hair up, as this accentuates the femininity of the wearer’s neck,” according to Irish couture milliner Philip Treacy. The highlights? & Other Stories’ sculptural black felt hat; Dior’s bucket hats (as seen in THE GLOSS September issue fashion shoot) and Asos’ felt wide-brimmed hat with neck tie (for the daring).
Channel 1920s chic (and the Christian Dior catwalk) with a cloche. Black wool felt hat, €39, at & Other Stories.
