These 3 Super-Moisturisers For Summer Give Great Skin – and More

No Ordinary Love, says beauty editor SARAH HALLIWELL

If you want healthy glowing skin, all those shimmery highlighters loading up beauty counters right now are not your first port of call. At this time of year, apart from good cleansing, we want a daily moisturiser that is effective yet light, boosting the skin without weighing it down. The word moisturiser no longer applies, it seems: the new breed call themselves serum-creams or water creams, to emphasise their superior moisturising abilities. Mostly, this means ingredients like proven hydrator hyaluronic acid, plus supporting plant extracts or oils. But some have sensorial textures that make them a sheer pleasure to apply, as well as doing a robust job. Here are three super-moisturisers that go beyond the call of duty and are my pick of the current bunch …

1 FOR A PERFECT MAKE-UP BASE: Chanel Hydra Beauty Camellia Water Cream is a light luxe fluid that transforms the daily ritual of putting on moisturiser. It’s refreshing, with the lightest scent, and soothing on the skin. A sheer pleasure. €54.

2 FOR A HEALTHY GLOW: If you love a multitasker, Decleor Green Mandarin Sun-Kissed Cream is good news. This day cream lies somewhere between skincare and make-up – you’ll find you wear less base when using it: while it hydrates your skin (yep, hyaluronic acid), the antioxidant green mandarin essential oil is helping protect skin, too. Finally, it gives a bit of a glow, using natural pigments, like a subtle self-tanner. So you’re getting your money’s worth. €62, at spas nationwide and www.decleor.co.uk.

3 FOR A DEWY FINISH: Kiehl’s Calendula Serum-Infused Water Cream is just a pleasure to use. I’m not sure how it manages to be so hydrating, without being sticky and gloopy, but it does. You just want to dive into it. While we all go on about “hydrating the skin” as if it were some parched leathery surface, the lovely lightness of this serum/cream really shows on your complexion, if you like a bit of a glossy sheen. I didn’t expect to love it so much, but I find it beautifully refreshing to use at this time of year, when it feels muggy and your skin feels like it needs a long cool drink. €45, at Kiehl’s.
