The Sex Education Beauty Look We Want to Wear for Spring 2020

It’s all about eyeliner for spring 2020, with lots of catwalks showing blunt graphic liner or flashes of bright colour – even neon, as seen here at MSGM. And it’s not just the catwalks – anyone else glued to Netflix’s brilliant Sex Education will be in full admiration of Maeve’s rebellious eyeliner look. Subconsciously, it’s making us wear a lot more kohl.

It doesn’t need to just be inky black. There’s an abundance of great liners around at the moment, in daring shades. Anything remotely rose-tinted seems to be the biggest trend, with lots of maroons, reds and even pinks around; Lucia Pica at Chanel started this ball rolling with her red eyeliner for the Le Rouge Collection back in 2016. Fenty Beauty just launched Flypencil Longwear Pencil Eyeliners (€20, at Harvey Nichols Dundrum and www.Boots.ie) – I love the zingy colours and silky texture, though they are not retractable which is a bit annoying. L’Oreal Paris new Le Liner Signature pencils are great value at €8.95, and the Clarins Waterproof Pencil in Smoked Wood, a gorgeous dark bluey-grey the colour of woodsmoke, is my current favourite – the colour is just a bit different from others out there (€20).

If you have a bit of skill, the new Lancome x Mert & Marcus collection features Transforming Liquid Eyeshadows (€29) that look a bit boring when you first apply but then turn darkly glittering and dramatic – the black emerald green is particularly cool. Maeve would certainly approve …
