The New Secret Cabin Experience You Need To Book This Summer

In search of a digital detox and a back to nature experience? Read on …

WHY: You may not have heard of Slow Cabins, an eco-hospitality brand that designs and places cabins at secluded locations, within a two hour drive of European cities. The concept revolves around a low impact stay not too far from home and is ideal for those who want to take a break without the stress of long travel times. From August 1, Slow Cabins’ first secret Irish location will launch and bookings are now open.

HOW IT WORKS: Guests book without knowing the exact location of their cabin, letting the company take the “stress of the choice” out of their hands. Within two weeks of the trip, guests are provided with coordinates of the cabin location. When they arrive, they park a short distance away and hike to discover their cabin.

WHAT TO EXPECT: The sustainable cabins, clad in shou sugi ban (Japanese charred wood) help the cabins blend with the countryside. They are equipped with a queen size bed, crisp white linen, chairs, a private space for a fire pit and grill, and a large panoramic window. The cabins are powered by sunlight and water. When guests arrive, they will have a charged battery, as well as a full tank of filtered rainwater. This allows them to live simply and self-sufficiently with minimal impact. Slow Cabins provide tips on how to manage energy throughout and after each stay.

WHO: “Recent European studies show that our resilience improves and stress levels decrease by up to 70 per cent after a stay in nature. Getting away from it all brings peace, energy and a sense of perspective. And that’s where Slow Cabins have an interesting role to play in a fast ‘always-on’ society”, says Matthew Parkinson, Slow Cabins Ireland Director.

Parkinson ensures there is a strict process in identifying and selecting sites for the cabins. This includes a thorough impact assessment to ensure they’re working with the environment rather than against it. There will only ever be a few Slow Cabins at any given location, ensuring peace and privacy for guests and respect for nature. Once there, guests will also receive insider tips to enjoy the locality whether hiking, cycling, or enjoying local food, or staying put. Above all, Slow Cabins provide a guilt free, thoughtful, stay in nature. From €250 per night, with a minimum two night stay. To book visit www.slowcabins.ie
