SÍOMHA CONNOLLY rounds up the best events taking place around the country this June, from LITERARY FESTIVALS to OUTDOOR OPERA EVENTS and more …

Cork’s Long Table

This month we are … planning day trips to summer festivals starting with the Dalkey Book Festival from June 15 – 17, where THE GLOSS contributing editor Polly Devlin is among the line-up for the weekend where talks will take place in various locations around the village. Going to Cork … for the Cork Midsummer Festival (June 15 – 24) where the programme of events includes a mix of plays, concerts and discussions. Don’t miss Asking For It, a stage adaptation of Louise O’Neill’s acclaimed novel at The Everyman, and Cork’s Long Table on June 24. Planning a day out … at Taste of Dublin (June 14 – 17) to enjoy food talks, take part in hands-on cooking classes and sample delicious dishes from restaurants like Pickle, SABA and The Port House. Booking a night … at The Merrion for “Opera in the Garden” with the Wexford Festival Opera on June 13 and 14 where an open-air performance of Bernstein à la carte will take place along with a champagne reception and buffet supper. Tossing a coin … to decide between Body & Soul and Sea Sessions which both take place from June 22 – 24. Putting on our walking boots … for the Mourne Mountain International Walking Festival (June 22 – 24). And, if we have a spare night, we’ll book tickets for The Snapper which opens on June 14 at the Abbey Theatre.
