The Jewellery Edit: The Festive Hair Rescue

When the salons are closed but you still have parties to go to, you need the best hair jewels around to rescue your ‘do. Here is the best selection to stock up on, from high street to high end.

A hairband hides all sins, and this time of year, the more sparkle the better. Also look for luxuriously festive fabrics; satin and velvet really make the grade. Jennifer Behr has a super selection at Brown Thomas. Simone Rocha’s covetable headbands are available at Havana Donnybrook – this double beaded red crystal piece is a real showstopper.

Zara also has a great range – in metallics as well as fabrics. I also love their selection of molten gold hairclips, particularly excellent for those who like their glamour more understated (especially for daytime events when all-out sparkle might not be called for). Marks and Spencer’s pearl encrusted clips come in ever-useful packs of three, while even Dunnes Stores are getting in on the action – the multicoloured gem slides are too joyful to resist.

And if all else fails? I will forever champion the idea of sliding an heirloom brooch in beside a near low bun; antique sparkle never fails to charm and it’s a great way to get wear out of a piece of jewellery that might be lurking in the back of a drawer.
